Hello Everyone, I am new to this site and found it awsome. We'll (husband, 2 year old toddler and me) be moving to boston in aug'13 for my husbands' mba. I have few questions reagarding this movement. I have been told that its mandatory to have separate room for kids. I am very concerned about it as till now we were planning for 1BHK, and if there is such rule then it will severely affect our already tight budget. We have planned to keep 1000$ for housing and websites are not listing any 2BKH in this limit even places far off Education street, cambridge . Please help me in clarifying this. Thanks in Advance, Shalu
Hi Shalu, Yes, housing in Boston is very expensive, especially when compared to other places like chicago or dallas. Most apartments have the rule that a family of four should rent a 2-bed apartment. For $1000 I don't think this is possible for you. If you look for apartments with a common laundry and located away from posh localities/downtown, you *may* get a 2bd apartment in the range of $1200-$1350. Good luck!
Thanks Silver lite for clarifying it. Considering this mandate, i guess we better allot more budget for housing instead of banging head with apartment brokers. Lets see how things unfold. Have fun. Shalu
Shalu, That depends on where you want to live. Few apartment communities arent stringent about such rules. For ex, faxon commons in Quincy isn't hard about a 2BR even if you have a kid. Also, if your hubby is getting into MIT for MBA then, they mostly provide student stay for the family. The price can be nominal. I rem an IL friend did stay near the campus till her hubby finish his MBA .. So , I would suggest you to first zero on the location you want to stay and them check with the apartments in particular. Apartments do cost 1000-1025 in some places.. Like a place called Glenview apartments in Woburn cost you a $1025 for a 2BR. They don't come under lease too and you have weekly / monthly lease. You can check them..
That was really breather. We will not be able to stay very close to college, but 30-45mins travel should be okay. i will check the apartments you mentioned and try to search. I'll also check about the family stay provided by college and see if i can find anything fitting in our budget. Thanks a lot Preethi
Anytime shalu. I know how it is when you come to a different county for the first time. If you are moving from India then you need to start from scratch isnt.. Boston is commutable from Woburn. Not very expensive too. Quite an Indian population. Similarly is Quincy and the fax on commons. A mini India is the fax on commons community But if you choose Woburn, and do not get a place around the time you coming, then you can contact Jamison studio apartments which are ready to move in. With furniture, TV and basic kitchen stuff. You can then start looking around and settle where you wish to. These studio apartments are pay as you go like weekly or daily kind and no lease. It is not worth it for a long stay but as a start its atleast safe and hassle free .. Best luck on your move
Yes Preethi, we are moving from India and you guessed it right, everything looks hazy right now. boarding, lodging, food, education, career, finances, neighborhood. It was in the heat of uncertainties that i stumbled upon this wonderful site. mentally its reliving to have people who understand the anxieties and are willing to share info. there have been lot of recommendations on woburn and i guess we'll be looking in that area itself. Thanks again, i'll keep bugging you guys over and over again .
