Here is the simple(bland) translation.

ದಾಂಪತ್ಯ (Married life)

ಹೂವಲ್ಲಿ ಸುಗಂಧ ಬೆರೆತಂತೆ,
The way fragrance is embedded in a flower,
ಬಾನಲ್ಲಿ ನೀಲಿ ಬೆರೆತಂತೆ,
The way color blue is embedded in the sky,
ನಾವು ಬೆರೆತೆವು ಒಬ್ಬರಲ್ಲೊಬ್ಬರು .
We blended into each other.

ಸರಿಯೆನಿಸಿತ್ತು ನಡೆ _ನುಡಿ,
We accepted each other's lifestyles and words,
ಬೆಸೆದಿತ್ತು ಜೀವ _ಭಾವ,
Our lives and emotions were blended well,
ಕಲೆತಿತ್ತು ಮೈ _ಮನ.
So also, our bodies and minds blended.

ಈಗೇನಾಯಿತು ಗೆಳೆಯ?
What happened now, my friend/beloved?
ಜೀವನವಾಗಿದೆ ನೀರಸ,
Life has turned bland,
ಎದೆತುಂಬ ಬರೀ ವಿರಸ.
Hearts are full of discontentment.


ನವರಸದ ಮಾಧುರ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲ,
The beauty of 'navras' (emotions) is missing,
ಗೆಳೆತನದ ನಗುವಿಲ್ಲ,
There are no friendly laughters,
ದಾಂಪತ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಸೊಗಸಿಲ್ಲ.
Married life has turned insipid/Marriage is no longer beautiful.


ವಿಧಿಲಿಖಿತ ನಿರ್ಧರಿಸಾಯ್ತು,
Fate has bound us,
ಸಮಾಜ ಬೆಸುಕೆ ಹಾಕಾಯ್ತು,
Society has united us,
ಇನ್ನೂ ಏಕೆ ಇಲ್ಲದ ಕೋಪ-ತಾಪ ?
Still why are we so unhappy?


ಪ್ರೀತಿಯಿಲ್ಲದ ಜೀವನ ದಾರುಣ.
Loveless life is miserable.
ಮತ್ತೆ ನವರಸ ಅನುಭವಿಸೋಣ,
Again let's enjoy the 'navras'/ Again let's be happy,
ಬಾ ಕೂಡಿ ಸಂಸಾರನೌಕೆ ನಡೆಸೋಣ.
Together let's carry forward our journey.


‘ಸಮರಸವೇ ಜೀವನ, ವಿರಸವೆ ಮರಣ.’**
'Co-existence is life, discard is death'
ನವರಸದ ಹೊಳೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಈಜೋಣ
Let's again swim together in the ocean of happiness
ಬಾ ಇನಿಯ, ಈಸಿ ಜಯಿಸೋಣ.
Come, my beloved, let's win this journey.

** 'Samarasave jeevana, virasave maraNa' is a famous line by one of Kannada's greatest poet Sri D R Bendre.

Rhyme scheme couldn't be maintained.
The title is Daampatya in Kannada, that is, Daampatyam in Telugu.

 

Yeah! Scriptwise, Telugu n Kannada are similar and because of that I can manage Telugu reading. In Kannada, we invariably add 'a' at the end of most words and in Telugu it is 'm'!
