harsh bitter truth of many people i know.

marupakkam from the wives point sumanrathi.. i wrote this in 2008 when lot of workers died in a accident in me ..i wrote it in hindi originally then translated it to english for my friends.. your post and this incident of a man who died on the spot in my h's office when a forklift went out of control.reminded me this.)

Those funfilled days with the children, the moments of laughter
all those things we talked, are all still held in my eyes
people think it is very difficult to wile away time.
but his life is wiling away earning a few green notes.

I make myself happy by seeing those snaps
I pick up the phone to listen to his voice.
but what should i tell my little kids to keep them happy..
when they are sitting at the door waiting with eyes wide open...

pankaj* sang the letter has come....
He also listens to it when he is homesick...
But what can i do, nothing but waiting...
when will he back at my doorstep.....

*...(It is a very famous song chitti aayi hai by pankhaj udhas in the picture NAAM ---about the nri's...that brings tears even today )..

    Dear All

pl. note this is not my words one of my NRI's feel I mentioned in the subject itself

as Shanvy said when i read this my eyes are full of tears

    sumanrathi,

it is more bad for the construction and other workers who go home once in 2 or 4 years. i have read of people who go get married and return back and need to be introduced to their 2/3 year old child. really feel bad for them.

many may say that it is a choice they have made, but some choices are like crosses, they have to bear it inspite of the weight and the pain.

on the same note i have also seen families of these men spending lavishly having no clue of what the menfolk have to endure. in the sweltering 50 degrees heat..(well it never officially goes beyond the 50 but have seen 55 in my home readings),
there are days when i watch the workers trying to find a shade, to eat that piece of kaboos and coke and take fifty winks before the lunch break is off..
thanks to technology, they are able to spend less on the telephone bills which used to make it impossible to talk everyday. the lines with the card at the public telephones. it is 13 years of on and off ME living. and my heart goes out to those men as well as their families..

is it really fate as periamma says, not it is more than that..

    Hi Sumanrathi & Shanvy
All your words are true about their suffering.
I see many of my colleagues who left the wife when she was carrying & see their baby in the photos only. They slog here & bearwith all the humiliations, discriminations etc & console themselves by seeing and showing their kid's photo to us. We used to tell them that their child is going to ask " who this uncle sends or comes with choclates rarely"... that is the pathetic state.

But howfar their fly and friends understand their suffering is a big????.
Even we who live as a fly, when we face any health problem, we suffer alone without any help or guidance & afraid to seek medical help ( eithr cost factor, time factor-cant take leave from the work as you wish, or no proper doctor-may be they are different nationalities who cant understand our issues etc etc ).
