    Hi all -

My daughter is 3 months old and started having eczema since a month. She has severe red patches all over her tummy and in the arm and leg folds. I have bad experiences with this problem for my elder son who is 4 yrs now and still has it. We apply english medicines(compositions, aquaphor, hrdrocortizone, etc etc) for him which are very temporary. If there someone out there who experienced this and has a cure, please advise. Really appreciate your responses!

Please check if your baby is having milk allergy.
BTW is it on mom's milk or cow's. Mother's milk will generally not cause allergy but if it is on formula/cow's then maybe.

There is definitely no cure in english medicines. But homeo pathy can be consulted for a cure.

    Hi adara -

Thanks for your response! My baby has been on formula and breast milk for first 3 months. I stopped nursing from this month and now she is only on formula. Do you think that is the reason? Thanks again!

Jyothi, as sweta said you can try homeopathy. Sometimes, food allergy also causes this. But in homeopathy they actually try to get to the root of the problem rather than giving temporary relief.

    Hi Jyothi:

As the other ladies here said Homeo is the best medicine for such chronic conditions.

My daughter was 2yrs when she started getting those rashes and itching. She would always complain itchy...itchy and cry. I was desperate.
I went to my pediatrician here and he prescribed cortisone cream. She had a rash on her wrist. After one day of application of this cream the rash disappeared. After a week or 10 days she started itching again and this time on the inner elbow. Doctor told me to see a skin specialist (dermatologist) since this is called atopic dermatatis or mild eczema. The dermatologist sort of took my interview like what she eats, when she itches does she itch immediately after eating something blah blah blah..... and then finally prescribed Protopic which is also a cream but not steroidal like the cortisone one. Also the doctor asked me to give her Zyrtec every night so she could sleep well since she would get that itchy sensation usually at around 2-3 am at night.
Once when I told my doctor that even after giving Zyrtec she is not sleeping well he prescribed Atarax and said just give her before bedtime and I am sure that will calm her.
Anyway, I was not happy because all these are not permanent solutions to the problem and my daughter is only 3 years then and did not want her to be on medicines through out life. So all these drugs and creams went on since she was 2 yrs old to 3 yrs old.

When I went to India, Hyderabad, my dad took me to a homeopathy doctor and when he saw all the medicines he said these are all anti-histamines and these will only try to suppress the symptoms but what you want is permanent cure. Your daughter cannot concentrate on studies or other activities if this continues. All these drugs will affect her concentration immensely.
Now, that was in 2006 summer when my daughter was 3yrs old. He asked me about her digestion and appetite and general questions about when she itches most and her emotional state then. After hearing all this he gave medicines for 6 months, to be given thrice daily. Then, once my medicines were over and I was in the US my Parents sent another pack for another 6 months. This continued for 2 years and finally when I went last year 2008 the doctor advised me to use for 6 more months even though it was all gone. Just for maintaining it that way. Now my daughter who is 6 years old is off medicines since 6 months and she is absolutely fine. Her skin looks clean and nice with all the marks due to rashes gone.

Now the main thing in this is he will ask you to follow diet which is rich in fibre and nutrients. No junk food. Occasional junk is still OK. He says stay away from processed foods as they accumulate only toxins in the body.
We have switched to brown rice, veges and we encourage kids to eat salads with their meal. Also the doctor told me to give lot of seasonal fruits and dry fruits like figs and dates. Fruit juice e.g orange juice will tone up the system and keep the immune system up. We try to incorporate all this in our diet.Though there is occasional junk food in my house which is impossible to stop all together but we try to restrict it a lot. Now all this eating fiber rich food is to maintain the digestive system and avoid constipation which the doctor says is the root cause of all diseases.
Doctor asked me to stop using soaps and apply sesame oil before bath and use besan (make a paste and apply all over) instead of soap.
So as you see eating right and taking the homeopathy medication as prescribed actually put her off these English medicines which have lot of side affects.

I will give you the address of this homeo doctor in Hyderabad. I know lot of people who see him and have never heard anyone unhappy with him.

    Hi Sarada -

I really appreciate the time you took for responding to my problem. This is exactly what I'm looking for. I am planning to go to India in May2010. So my question is can I call him from US and get the medicines so that I can start it right away. Please let me know...thanks so much again!

    Hi dear

I can understand your problem as I have already gone throught this problem. As everyone told homeopathy is the best option they are very right. But you are planning to travel India in 2010 so what will you do till then? You try fresh aloe vera gel to the affected region. You may browse and get complete information about aloe vera and its healing properties. You can also try this, Boil few tender leaves of neem tree in mustard oil, let it cool, store in the bottle and apply to the affected part. As your baby is too small so be cautious.

I wish you good luck to your baby.

    Hi Jyothi:

    You are welcome!

I don't think he will prescribe medicines over phone and that too without seeing the patient even once. He needs to see the patient for the first time so he understands exactly what kind of eczema it is. The first time I went the doctor told me that there are numerous types of eczema so he in fact will ask you some questions and based on your answers he will diagnose. Isn't there any way for you to go before 2010 and get started on the medicines? Later when the dose is over he might talk to you over phone and ask how the child is doing and send you medicines via post if required.
BTW are you going to Hyd?

    Good luck!
