Thanks Supriya, I found it on page 52 or AskChitvish and she states "I have never tried with idli rava. I am just suggesting, you can try. Soak 3 cups idli rava in just enough warm water & start grinding urad. Finally, add the soaked rava, just give one grind to mix thoroughly. Try this.". Have you tried this combination? How did it turn out? Thanks
I usually make idlis like this. Take idli rava and Urad dal in 3:1 proportion.Soak only Urad dal for about 4-6 hrs.4 is enuf and 6 is also good. It depends on situation. The taste is not different. Grind the Urad dal with as little as 2-4 spoons water. Then soak Idli rava for 15-20 min. After 20 min squeeze water from idli rava .mix the rava with urad dal paste. Add salt and let it sit for 3-4 hrs. Then you can make idlis or put the batter in the fridge. PS:My mom and I make it this way and it makes very soft idlis. At the same time my sister gives the drained idli rava and urad dal paste a grind in mixer and that also makes very soft idlis. You can chose any method you want according to your taste.Good Luck.
You can also try this, I have tried this and it works out really soft and nice. 1 1/2 cup idli rava 1/2 cup urad dal Wash and put 1 cup water and soak both for 1 hour. Squeeze out the water from idli rava and let the water come out completely. Grind it and pour in another container.. Lastly, Grind both together and leave it over nite. And you have ur batter ready next morning. Regards Shubhas
