In my area, sona masuri rice costs leg and arm. So I like to try other alternative. Please suggest me some other brands of rice.

    Thank you.

    Hi,

You can try basmati or Ponni.....if you get them there. I was in Helsinki for a while and we bought Noorjahan Basmati rice there.

Good to know you are still finding Sona Masoori in the stores...here I have shifted to Long Grain this week.

Sona masuri rice avilable in my my area in some stores but one 20lb bag is $45. Last week I bought 2 bags. But I don't want to buy next time.

Basmathi rice doesn't suit to samabr and rasam. It basically doesn't go with southindian cooking. I used jasmin rice but somehow it has some different smell, I couldn't stand for that.

    What brands are u using?

    Hi srilak,

I used to boil basmati rice in water and drain off the strach. That used to take away the smell. And we used to have it with sambar. But yes in helsinki basmati was only available...only later we got sona masoori. So for us there was no other go.Try if you can, else I am sure other ladies will help you find a suitable option.
I cannot be of much help as I dont know what is available there, but hoping that you get good options.

    Regards,
    Yamuna.

    Hi,

I recently bought long grain polished rice from sams club.It is 14$ for 20 pounds and its a very good substitute for sona masoori rice.
