Where do you get Best Masala Dosas

    In bangalore, you wont get good masala doshas in any of the "sagars" they serve just thick stuff with onions and an eye wash of potatoes........if possible they will give you saagu and not good chutney. The sambar ofcourse an insult to the name sambar......and will be sweet.

    Look for aryabhavan, i dont remember the place name......really good, thin, crisp with good masala and coconut chutney they give

    Btw, I had done mysore masala dosa, typical one (not chennai style :wink: )
    yesterday. Some guests had come home. So, I had prepared at home. Dose with aloogadde palya + chutney. sambaar maDalilla.. chennai-yalli
    elli hodaroo sambaar tindoo tindoo bore agibittide.
    chennai ge banda hosadaralli (settling time ) yaava hotelge hodaroo
    nuggekayi sambaar. adoo six-sigma quality ( andre same type.. anta. berenilla :rotfl).
    Anyway, guests were happy, did not complain. They said it is different
    from that available here and nice.

    I had asked few questions mebbe it is more than a fortnight.
    I dunno no one responded for it. Here are the questions again.

    1. If masala dosa is the king of dosas, which is the queen of dosas? (mebbe take a poll :) )
    2. How many varieties of dosas are known?

    Wish I was there to taste the same. Everybody in my house loves the same. What you say is correct about the samba adhe enu ashtu nugge kayi haktharo... I luv the sambear they give her... swalp sihi idharu adhu onthara ruchi... nanna makkalige bahala preethi. A sambar idhare saaku enu bekadharu olage hogathe.

    Now coming to your question:
    1. Very difficult question because I cannot opt for anything else... maybe Ravadosa

    Well for dosas, I would consider set dosa as the queen, while masala dosa being the king. Reason behind this selection is the quantity that gets sold. Atleast being in Gandhi bazaar (you can call this place, the king of Masala dosa hotels)...I know what is the next best thing that gets sold after masala dosas.
    Personally my choice would be plain dosa if I dont get to have masala dosa. This is because, plain dosas are equally crisp sans the aloo palya.
    And for the other question, I guess Lalitha has already listed a lot of them.
    I'll just try to add some unique varieties.....If you have ever visited Sajjan rao circle at VV Puram (their stalls set up only by around 7 PM and goes on till 12 am in the night), you'll know the mix and match dosas there! They have something called 'baath dosa'....where they stuff the masala dosa with 'lemon bath'. Both aloo palya and lemon rice bath next to each other inside the crisp dosa. It tastes good and different and totally filling.
    And there's ragi dosa...which is healthy and equally crispy. Adai is another dosa variety which is again healthy considering all the grains used. These are the ones I make apart from the regular 'menthya dosa'.
    Apart from these I try out instant varieities for my toddler daughter like 'wheat floor dosa'...wherein we mix wheat floor with curds and spread out as dosas...they are soft and tasty with ghee. Sometimes instead of wheat floor, we add rice floor or rava or ragi floor. I also try dosas with floors made of uddina bele, kadale bele, hesaru bele with little rava and curds.
    nimage 'taranga' vaarapatrike Odo abhyasa iddare, they had given a 100 variety of dosas in one of their editions(maybe 2-3 years back). Even our Chitvish has listed a lot of dosas in her recipe forum.
    yavaga bengaloorige barteera...namannella meet madokke? dose baggene ondu 'talk' Erpadisona :)! Enanteera?

    Hello ladies....this thread is getting interesting. Naanu nan contribution kodana antha andkothini....recent agi nam amma maneli gathering ittu and the cook made a new kind of dosa called UPPU PULI DOSA..the recipie will follow!! Dosa for a change chennagi ittu... Queen of dosa..I also vote for SET DOSA. :)
