WHERE FEMALES DARE?SHE emerged a Topper in Computer Science From Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. She WAS DELIGHTED to see an Ad calling candidates for trainee officers to work in TELCO. She was disappointed to read the bold print foot note in the Ad that read “FEMALE CANDIDATES NEED NOT APPLY”. She wrote a post card to JRD Expressing her shock about discrimination and questioned how such a progressive company of India could impose a restriction to females and she would very much like to be a candidate. The letter had a salutary effect. She got a telegram in a few days asking her to attend interview and she would be reimbursed First class railways fare; and was selected in the interview and was the first lady technical officer appointed in TELCO in 1974. For long she was trying to meet JRD TATA . She wanted to express her gratitude to him. SEVERAL MONTHS PASSED. ONE DAY in 1982, as she was climbing up the stairs in Tata house in Bombay Office, JRD was coming down the stairs. It was a chance meeting him. She had become already Sudha Moorthy. She told Him that she was leaving the job as her husband & she had started a company called INFOSYS. Is it grit or determination or courage or confidence or a combination of all these!
