Last year I tried adhirasam for Deepavali with readymade rice flour. The taste is OK, but the texture is not that soft. If I follow @Thyagarajan sir`s receipe, it will turn good, I think. I too like the mouthwatering taste of adhirasam.

Just out of curiosity I googled and found several videos recipes using jaggery. But the are in Telugu. Don’t know if you can understand. They do have English subtitles though for what is being added. it’s called ariselu btw not kajjikayalu in Telugu.
ariselu is the recipe that you mentioned. Garelu - soak the urad dal , grind it, (salt, add lots of onions if you like, a few slices of fresh coconut, green chilli, pepper corns). From the batter, make balls, spread it lightly make a hole in the center and gently slide into hot oil. I think it is supposed to be fried in medium hot oil.
Sorry OP for deviating from the topic. But has anyone heard about Kobbari vadalu. It’s somewhat similar to Ariselu but little different and even more tastier. My aunt is an expert in making this and we all love it!! Here is a recipe for both from one of my favourite bloggers before even Insta and YouTube recipes got famous. And she is living outside India..So you might get some tips… THE CHEF and HER KITCHEN: Ariselu | Adhirasam | Kajjaya | Athirasa Recipe - Diwali Sweets Recipes 2012 THE CHEF and HER KITCHEN: Kobbari Boorelu | Kobbari Vadalu | Deepavali Recipes
