Please suggest free app to make phone calls over wi-fi

I don’t mean viber or WhatsApp, I mean app that place calls from an iPad, tablet, etc to someone’s landline or mobile phone

@SuiDhaaga - Thank you for the tag. I’ve used Vonage to call my mom forever. It’s a VOIP phone but also has an app. I don’t have any ideas of other apps.

I’m sorry but I don’t know of such apps. I have only used WhatsApp other than the landline to landline calls.

I used to use Google Voice before WhatsApp calling became a thing. Works on all smartphones, tablets and computers. If you want to use it on your iPad you can download the app from the app store. These days I only use it to call landlines in India. While calls made within the United States are free, it costs 1 cent per minute to make calls to India.

    Hi @SuiDhaaga
You haven't mentioned why you are looking for phone calls over ipad. Isn't it move incovenient as compared to the handheld cord or cordless phone.

If you are looking for some cost effective way, then, I can suggest the below.

Like @Laks09 I also used Vonage for a long period of time. Its reliable and was cheap at the time. Was around 30 to 40 dollars which included India calls. Then I realized that I was not making enough calls to justify the price.

Then I have switched to a combination of Ooma and Google Voice.

Ooma is a VOIP solution ( there are other similar products ), which you have to buy the device one time ( will cost 30 to 40 dollars ). After that there are no more charges. You can connect your cordless to ooma and use it like a landline ( like vonage ). All domestic calls are free. International calls go through Google Voice. ( Rates are the cheapest from what I have seen: Lot of European countries, India, etc are 1 cents a minute )

Google voice app integrates nicely with your mobile device and can be used from ipad or from browser.

    Good luck.
