Is it open season for you? I would look into another insurance that may offer better coverage. I signed up for Laura Mize’s email list and she sends daily tips for speech. I have also found Mary Barbers and Sally Rogers (Early Start Denver Model) books helpful.

I’m sorry kaput. Hugs and lots of positive vibes coming your way. We’ve all been there unfortunately. It’s depressing to spend hours and hours appealing the insurance denials. I’m sure you have gone through the appeals process and are exhausted. More hugs!

From what I can see, ABA did lose it’s effectiveness after age 8 so it might not be as dire. We did need to find other ways to teach him. RDI is something that worked better for me. If you haven’t already done so, do look into it. It’s parent led and since you are such an involved parent you will benefit from it.

It might be an issue with all insurance companies in the state because of the way the state has decided to classify services.

My kid is 6 now and can talk, completed VBMAPP (but not social goals), has behavioral issues and tested recently as cognitively impaired. I am looking for a provider that can work specifically on building cognitive/coping/social skills. PEAK is *supposed* to help with higher level thinking, but it can be argued that cognitive skills are not an ASD specific deficit, so that is the push back from insurance. In any case, I am not finding a provider in this place that has expertise in building any of the skills she needs now.

I did follow Laura Mize when my daughter was little and some of the tips helped. We implemented ESDM when she was younger too. I still keep pulling goals from ESDM because she still lags in personal independence. I read Mary Barbera's book and also did her online courses. Picked up doing Language for Learning/Thinking based on her recommendation.

Thanks Laks. Yes I am done after months of this, I will spend my energy elsewhere.
I have never looked into RDI. I checked and there is no consultant nearby. I will get a book and see if it can work for us.

I have been struggling to do more than language/speech related teaching, so recently started tracking different things daily. Still, most days, I am able to check off just the language & play, but hoping to track here and do better.

    3/17/22:
    Thinking Skills - DONE (worksheets)
    Language - DONE (L4T)
    Daily Skills - DONE
    Play/Recreation - DONE (blocks)
    Social/Emotional Learning - DONE (EverydaySpeech)
    Academics - DONE (reading)

I got training in PEAK and feel comfortable about implementing it by myself with dd. But not been able to start any real programming for the lack of prep time. :worried: Have to make time for it.
