Usually pooja stores will have such thin soft pure cotton. You can try there. You can feel it before bringing home

Now that you mention it, I do recall seeing folded white cotton materials near the pooja and steel vessels shelves in the store!

Oh.... I knew that eventually we'd find out that Amazon ships that also.
I think the white/with twin border colors is the normal women's hair drying towel. The red one is used by men.

You would notice at least two threads in both warp (lengthwise) and weft (crosswise) direction. This twin thread design helps to wick the water down in the lengthwise direction. I believe the Tamil people refer to such towels with this twin-thread weave in the name of the towel. Grandmothers would teach their granddaughters how to wrap the towel (always lengthwise go with lengthwise of hair) around wet-hair so that water is wicked down to the end, and then drips... if in excess. Usually this wrapping happens after the initial dabbing, and whipping the hair to a semi dry state.

I think camping towels from REI or similar sporting goods store might work.

Even paper towel could serve the purpose. I have seen a monk with long hair at kutralam falls was trying to dry his trusses by twisting it with several sheets of news papers.

You can find Turkish cotton towels in west elm, Amazon and pottery barn. I have one from West elm. They have in different sizes.
