I like the idea of renting a portion of their house. If they have any universities in their city and any indian students want to stay, they can cook for them as well ( make some more of what they cook ) and rent a room. Could charge between $400 to $600 for one person. This will also mean they have some additional company.
Not just the university students, if the house is close to any IT companies lot of Indians look for shared room. I had done that there are times that we had 2 roommates. But before opting this I suggest to check the HOA rules and home insurance rules.
Its a good idea provided you do a in depth check. You want to make sure the person renting is safe to have around. Also do check the insurance and other rules. As in US there are so many rules and regulations. If living in a gated community you may find that there are many restrictions. So do a thorough search before letting your home to a stranger.
