All that fascination with images and videos of the dead, and the funeral fires in the western media is almost always punctuated by an analysis of who's at fault. Too much credit seems to be foisted on Na'Mo'. When things didn't seem all that bad, it was said that India had managed well in spite of Modi and his shenanigans; when things got rotten, he got the total tar baby on his hands.

Instead of all that messing about, isn't there a lemon-lemonade lesson in all this ? "When life hands you lemons, you make lemonade" funda? So what are the lemons we got ?
    • not enough vaccines?
    • vaccination not happening fast enough to get to herd immunity?
    • Union controls everything, and States had to deal with facts on ground?
    • No Truth in data on how many are sick, how many are dead, how many got better?
    • Quacks peddling snake oil to make money ?
    • yada ... yada....
We must relax, take a collective deep breath through the double layer masks, and consider the positives.

Vaccines introduce into our bodies some faux systems for the body's own immune system to react and produce antibodies to attack the intruders. This experience of fighting and overcoming the invasion is supposed to be close enough to the fight that would happen if the real virus were to invade our body. And this memory is supposed to help us thwart the real siege and invasion. Those who buy this science will have the vaccine, and hope for the best.

However, those who get sick, face the actual virus, and have their immune system produce antibodies to fight it off, and SURVIVE, will have that memory in their system for a good long time. This is the best vaccine, but then this requires taking on the 1 to 5% chance that they will fail in the fight against the virus, and DIE.
Most people who got +ve covid test, and recovered at home, went through this fight and had their own immune system protect them, and create a repository of knowledge on how to fight this virus for use in the future.

Science people tell us that more than 80% of infections would end up with people's own immune system protecting them. The other 20% will be made up of the dead, and the seriously sick to recover with long term incapacity of the lungs or other organs. Like a real war --- with dead, seriously injured and incapacitated, and the recovered to fight another day.

Would people live better, differently at least, when they know that they could choke to death on a fine sunny day with clear skies and a gentle breeze ? You can almost fall in love with this Covid-19.

I ended up web-crawling to learn more about Concrete Galoshes, or Cement shoes, the methods of mafiosi in water burials of their enemies and family-squealers after watching the NDTV report:
The video from Balrampur, shot by someone driving on the bridge from where the body was dumped, was widely shared on social media. In the clip two men, including one in a PPE kit, are seen lifting the body, which is wrapped in a bag, to be thrown over the bridge into the Rapti river.

V.B. Singh, CMO, Balrampur, said an FIR had been lodged against the family of the person whose body was thrown into the river. Dr. Singh said the body was of one Premnath Mishra of Siddharthnagar, who was admitted to hospital on May 25 and died three days later on May 28.

Covid-19 variants to be given Greek alphabet names to avoid stigma
I do agree it’s quite confusing to use the variants numbers but Greek letters? At the rate the variants of concern are spreading and mutating - do we have enough Greek alphabets to cover them. Now what would they call the corona virus variant hybrid spreading in Vietnam - an alpha and delta hybrid?!

Lack of transparency is one of the major issues and no one to hold the government accountable. Supreme court is trying hard though.

    A fatal war on transparency

Dr. Rajesh Parikh says at 42 min. India needs to do THREE things to solve the problem immediately: Vaccinate, Vaccinate, and Vaccinate. Clever, eh? But not clever enough to describe how India is doing just that....in a default, painted-into-a-corner manner of predicament:

Vaccination spurs the body's immune system to get ready to face any possible post-vaccination infection. There are three ways body's immune system is thus prepared/vaccinated:

    1. Get inactivated virus (similar strain, or dead covid-19 virus) in a solution of adjuvants, and inject that into the person. The immune system sees the foreign molecule, and gets spurred into action, producing antibodies in sufficient number in a couple of weeks to attack and neutralize the faux-virus. These antibodies are approximately what the person would need if a real live virus attacks in the future. This is the traditional technology.

    2. Make chemical structures (through genetic technology) that are similar to the viral structures that bind to human cells. Inject a solution containing these pieces into the human to spur the immune system response to produce antibodies in a couple of weeks. This is the m-RNA technology.... especially suited for RNA viruses like the current Covid-19 pandemic.

    3. Have the human acquire the actual virus through independent means -- like....consort with other infected persons and catch it. This would spur the immune system to produce antibodies, and after the person convalesces back to good health, the memory of the infection would be imprinted in the immune system, and it will fight off any future infection from the same/similar virus.

All three methods of vaccination have side effects of varying degrees, from none at all to body aches/fever/fatigue etc...including death, that would depend on the individuals' own health condition.

Overt inoculation methods 1 and 2 are shown to have less side effects than the natural infection, i.e., method 3. However, method 3 produces the ideal features in an antibody for fight off future infections, albeit at a much higher cost of medical care, as well as mortality rate. Purveyors of methods 1 and 2 concede that future infections may not be prevented, but the severity of the disease would certainly be lowered. In the absence or shortages of methods 1 and 2, countries (many that do not produce their own vaccines) are left to this Hobson's choice of #3.

The mortality rate of acquiring immunity through surviving an infection varies from 0.5 to 2% of the infected population. In India's case this would be a very high number of lives to get to herd immunity.
