Would all those California companies contemplating move to Texas, rethink their move now? Pacific Gas and Electric may turn out to be the devil they know !! When ElPaso was able to buy electricity from elsewhere, the other cities weren't able to do that -- isn't this weird? So many questions and lessons. The poor residents who had pipes burse as the water pressure got up, and the thaw came on, would now face FUNGUS problem as the temperatures go up. Perhaps the real estate prices might stabilize, and may even come down a little. Once upon a Lyin'Ted is now Flyin'Ted.
@Laks09 How are things now? hope the power outages didnt affect you directly much. Seeing the news was scary
Natural disasters like earthquakes, fires or winter storms, or utility companies and infrastructure ill-prepared to deal with such disasters do not impact those contemplating a CA-> TX move. For a long time, when asked if we were contemplating it, my response used to be a silent 'when h** freezes over' : ) and here we are ... record low temperatures, frozen pipes and lots of contemplation. If we end up with a Longhorn in the family, it'll be close to a no-brainer...... whatever..
Slowly inching back to normal. Everyone has something to deal with. Thankfully everyone is healthy and we got through it and that’s what matters. All of us either lost power or water pipes burst or both. Very few people who had the good fortune of staying whole through this.
It ain’t our first Rodeo! We deal with broken pipes all the time. You don’t know the TX sun. Dampness and fungus isn’t a huge problem hereabouts.
What an irony? On one hand protesting for autonomy over their body and so thereby against vaccination and on the other hand women cannot have autonomy for their own body and unable to get abortion after more than 6 weeks of pregnancy. Ridiculous law which is coming into force in Texas! Just insane. Texas abortion ban law. My body my choice.
The most grotesque aspect of the law isn’t even the abortion ban. It is the state sanctioned moral policing. Allowing any random person to sue other private citizens on suspicion of having an abortion or aiding and abetting an abortion for money is alarming! Turning citizens into bounty hunters is reminiscent of the reporting of class traitors and bourgeois sympathizers in Mao’s China. This is terrifying. Not to mention that the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in all but name only by letting the law take effect. Texas is on its way to becoming Gilead.
Indeed tis a dark day for young women everywhere. I was reading elsewhere that since the USSC allowed the Texas ban to stand, we can expect as many as 22 more states to implement similar versions of this law in their respective states. Not.Good. Time to organize methinks.
