Apparently the bare chested face painted Viking with a spear (mounted flag)in his hand was looking for Pence to do some serious harm. Could make philosophers wonder: “what would the bus chasing dog do, if it actually catches the bus?”. In a traditional coup, the presidente has to be toppled, however the question “what if the presidente himself is doing the coup” arises in this case. Obviously the VP has to stand in and be toppled. If the constitution does not already have that, it ought to. Hence Lin Wood Tweet .

As for the dog, if he had actually impaled Pence with his spear, inquiring minds would want to know if the Constitution’s succession rule would work to let Pelosi take over as VP? And then she could invoke the 25th to her heart’s content?

So many movie possibilities here. From serious mission impossible type to comic farces. Hawley and Cruz will make good henchmen for the chief villain. Old and dawdling senator Kennedy can sit and fondle hairy white cat while plotting evil designs on Nancy. Penumbra of AOC in bikini will undulate while titles scrolls on screen. AR Rahman music.

The Historyextra site has a nice summary of the big failure of one US president in executing a coup. John Kennedy in 1961. The president whipped up a crowd of cuban emigre's, put them on landing crafts, and sent them off to Cuba to start an insurrection, with the hope that the local malcontents would join in and make it a counter revolution against Fidel Castro.
    source:
On 19 April the CIA-backed Cuban exile force started to surrender. The Bay of Pigs invasion had failed.

That the United States had been behind the operation was soon reported by the press and revealed in the United Nations. Unaccustomed to setbacks in what had so far been a charmed political life, Kennedy was devastated by the Bay of Pigs disaster. An adviser who peeped into the White House bedroom as the operation was failing observed JFK crying in the arms of his wife Jackie. He called his father for advice every hour, yet did not receive the paternal support he had anticipated. “Oh hell,” Joseph Kennedy told his son,“if that’s the way you feel, give the job to Lyndon [Vice President Johnson].”
Poor Donald!! He doesn't have a relative to go to for a good cry. Except Ivanka Zelnicova*, may be.

In the next 10 days the Donald could resign, with the understanding that Pence would pardon him. Sort of like a plea bargain, that Trump is so used to. Trump and his University got off with a plea-bargain with the plaintiff's. Paid up the money in exchange for no more law suits.

I am sure the CIA may have already given him a fake nuclear football with random numbers for nuclear codes. He cannot use Airforce ONE without Biden's approval already. Biden can also cut down on the water pressure in Donald's showers, something that the Donald had spoken at length in a campaign rally.

*Would Trump children change names to Zelníčkov(male) or Zelníčková, Maples, and Knavs (or germanized to Knauss) as all Trump named properties and Organizations drop the brand and regroup?

Hasn't Mitch McConnell already mentioned that there is not enough time before Jan 20th to have a Senate Trial on the matter ? The trial will have to happen in the next session of the Senate, with Schumer as the majority leader. And very likely there won't be enough votes to convict. The trial would be a boon to TV ratings, as Trump always has been. Trump will go on as a living martyr in the brains of the already-convinced. Listen to Saagar:

It’s a symbolic move by the house. It’s good to know 10 Republican house members grew a spine and voted to impeach.

The senate has to convene, hear arguments for and against and vote on the impeachment. As of now the senate will not convene a special session to hear the case. When Chuck Schumer becomes the Senate Majority leader in a couple of weeks time, once the two GA senators are sworn in, he will be able to call a vote on impeachment. The incoming Biden administration has pressing matters to deal with - security concerns from home grown terrorists, a raging pandemic, unemployment, a failing economy - to name a few. I think their first focus will be to get the cabinet nominees voted on. Especially the DOJ/D and HHS leads. They will mostly call this to the floor to vote only after the cabinet is set and the pressing needs of people are seen to. I’ve read that Schumer will call a vote on this only after Biden’s first 100 days. That gives them time to put their administrators in place and hopefully pass the $2000 relief check as a first act of the new congress.

Only if the senate convened, voted and it passed with a 2/3 majority. It most likely won’t, even in the new senate. Harris won’t have a vote and that procedure will be presided by Chief Justice John Roberts. 17 Republican Senators have to vote for impeachment along with all the 50 democrats for Trump to truly get impeached by the Senate. I don’t see 17 Republicans suddenly growing a conscience especially since Biden will be president and they are going to have to stand together to show a unified party after Trump.

The only reason I see this passing the 2/3 senate majority is if Republicans think that DJT is a far bigger liability than they want to hold on to. In that case, they will find 17 senators (bakras) who will vote for the impeachment but the Republican senate leader McConnell won’t come out with a public statement for or against it. In public he will say that he is going to consider it after he looks at the facts presented to the senate.

Between the time DJT leaves office and the time this vote comes up, what he does will be crucial. If he garners enough support from the people they will stand with him. If he doesn’t seem to entice large crowds they will find the votes to impeach. The problem is those massive rallies and all those people who follow him. That’s become a major pain point for the Republican Party.

Thanks. I will have to google what is the point of impeachment happening after a president has left office. Can he still be held accountable and have to pay for the actions that led to the impeachment.

McConnell is said to be in favor of conviction, because he thinks this will rid the GOP permanently of Trump. Whether he can convince another 16 of his caucus remains to be seen.

The impeachment has already happened. If there is a conviction by the senate then that individual can never run for President again. That would suit both Democrats and many Republicans.

I believe if the senate convicts, he will have to forfeit his pension, secret service cover and the chance to hold office again. To hold him accountable, he needs to face the judiciary. If the DoJ decides to go after him, try and convict, then he will probably have the book thrown at him. Justice Merrick Garland is a moderate and he will probably have a free hand to run his department unlike DJT’s AG’s who were pushed to dance to his tunes. We can expect Merrick Garland to do a good job of deciding if he wants to press charges. Since dems have senate majority Merrick Garland will be the new AG. Wish it was Sally Yates but he’s good and will do the job well.
