    Hello,

I don't mean to be personal, but is it common for women to get hair on their breasts and on stomach area? My mom wears saari and I have never seen hair on her stomach.

Since last year I started noticing thick hair in these 2 areas and am getting freaked out. Like all, I do get hair on hands and legs, but lots of facial hair too which I am working on to remove it permanently via some natural remedies.

I have PCOS/PCOD, which is also the reason of my facial hair and my extra weight. I had consulted doctor here in US and she asked me to lose weight first and she said with that facial hair problem would go away too.

I eat healthy and go for 1-2 hours of walks and by end of 2 months I would have just lost 2 kgs or so which would come back soon. So I am already worried about my weight, facial hair and now additional worries about this extra hair too.

If it's uncommon to have hair in these areas, then I think I will have to consult other doctor.

Exactly, it is always safe to get advise from a doctor or from a medical professional, it is still for your own wellness.

No I don’t think it’s uncommon...perfectly normal to have hair growth there..
But sudden hair growth and change in texture, I.e very coarse hairs suddenly developing require some investigation for hormonal imbalances...you mentioned about having. PCOS which already gives a good explanation for this..another opinion by a specialist will be better to bring the PCOD under control so that these undesirable change should too will be addressed.

Yes it is when there is an hormonal balance especially due to high androgens/testosterone.

PCOS cause unwanted hair especially on chin, belly , etc. Weight gain is mostly due to insulin resistance.

Did you have your blood work like Testosterone, Insulin , DHT etc done?

Hi OP,I think it is normal and PCOS could be part of problem.
Just if it helps, i have hairs too and infact a lot.

When i was lot younger, suddenly hair started everywhere and on face and i was overweight and PCOS. Doctor in india put me on diet and pills and excercise. I lost weight and hair was gone.
Now years later, in US again weight and hair came back. Now i have lost weight many many times in my life but hair does not go. Doctors did not say PCOS at all. If i ask facial hair, she asks me to get those facial treatments.

I had blood test done for Testosterone about 10 years back in India when I was getting facial hair. The report came out to be -ve back then, was -ve for insulin too. Am not sure what DHT is. I didn't specifically get tested for Testosterone here in US, but doctor did say I mostly have it. She asked me to loose weight first. Even the doctor in India who tested me had told me the same thing, but after I loose weight, it keeps coming back.

I started intermittent fasting with healthy eating since last 3 days. Hopefully that helps me with weight and will then go for a checkup again.

I used to have lots of facial hair, hair on hand and legs back in India. Now for some reason hair on my legs and hand have reduced and even the ones I get is very light. I still have facial hair and now on other parts of body too. My friend has testosterone issues in India and was taking pills because of which she got lots of side effects too.

I was going through videos to remove facial hair using gram flour and turmeric. I have done it before which reduced the hair for sometime, but then I kept getting it again so I guess I will have to work on my weight first and then see if it disappears.

DHT is also an androgen. It causes excess hairfall in both male and female.
You can get tested for DHEAS as well which also causes hirsutism, hairfall etc.
High DHEAS is mostly due to high Insulin, High cortisol etc.
The thing is all these hormones are interconnected. Even if one is out of balance, all such issues start appearing.

There are various type of PCOS like Insulin resistance, adrenalin type.

You need to find out which kind of PCOS is yours so that you can treat the issue.

2 months are not enough for weight loss, you have to work and monitor over a minimum of 6 months. It takes around a year to get some results. And regular exercise is a lifestyle change, not a one time thing. Try yoga/meditation or even counseling to reduce stress. Stress greatly influences body. Excess hair is a problem nowadays for most women. That said if the hair is so dense that it looks prominent, you might want to see a specialist.
