please i feel this is over thinking. nothing good will come out of it.

also us govt laws are pretty much same as india. it looks very competitve , but it is equally corrupt and slow.

And when we are at it, let’s also ban it for everyone- wife, wife’s relatives, husband’s relatives because why not?

How you guys are all joking?... He got US citizenship "BECAUSE OF THE WIFE".. But he can't even treat her well and treats her like shes a maid giving orders and finding complaints ... wants to become rich bring his poor folks to US who will in addition illtreat her.... Come on... looks like a sham marriage.. They should make amendments to the law.. She was busy with small kids so she didn't realize all these years.. Loser can't even earn a green card by himself and wants to marry to get it?? Loser.. Took her to cheap honeymoon cause the lawyer needed pictures to process green card for him..

I'm not talking about ALL green card sand citizenships but citizenships "BECAUSE " of marriage should be banned. So all the generation will get green cards and citizenships.. just by having a boy marry a girl with whatever false pretense they can do just till they get the greencard and citizenship in hand... just lame...

So start by petitioning your elected officials if you’re that concerned, and see where it goes.

Exactly, rather than huff and puff here in IL, that would be better. Thanks for putting it clearly.

This is a big topic of debate in the upcoming elections. Family based immigration or chain migration as Trump calls it, is ruffling a lot of feathers. If the republicans have their way, they will take away family based immigration. Basically, you will have to immigrate on your own merit, not because a citizen family member files for you.
I have been attending a lot of local candidate meet and greets and both republican and democratic candidates are trying hard to sway this their way. Since it’s the election cycle, you should engage with your local reps and also the ones running for office and get a feel for what they are saying - both incumbents and challengers. This will help you in such advocacy for now and for anything else that comes up in the future. Get involved in your local governance. It’s a good thing.

If and when you talk to your political representatives it helps to have reasonable, well-thought out talking points prepared that cover the broad picture. Focusing on just one narrow case will not be as effective.

Your friend’s logic makes no sense to me. If your friend has a ‘sham’ marriage problem it is easier for her to fix it on an individual level instead of lobbying to try and amend a law which will take years.
Sounds like this is just her way of avoiding taking any real action about her marriage by deflecting the blame on to the law that made the marriage possible.
I will just add - one just can’t make sweeping generalizations like this. Be careful what you wish for etc etc.
