    Hi,
I have been dealing with right lower jaw pain under the ear for more than 2 months. I have pain in the ear, lower jaw under the ear with swelling over the jaw line. Been to different doctors and specialists. No definite answer yet.

Dentist said could be because of upper wisdom tooth and removed it 4 weeks back. Still have the same symptoms.

My symptoms are, lower jaw pain, pain under the ear for more than 2 months. Sore pain on top right side of the head and neck. Neck is mildly swollen too.
I am not able to open the jaw wider. My ears are clogged for 2 months. I hear some sound in my ear while lying down. Some soft music for 5 minutes or so. Only when I lie down.

Got a referral to a TMJ specialist and met him. He said I have joint issue and disc dislocated and my bones are scratching each other. He quoted a treatment plan for 5k$ and it takes around 6 months. I don't know what the treatment actually is. They didn't explain in detail. They said it consists of 2 appliances hard and soft.
I don't know if I really needed the treatment and if that really helps.

Anyone here with TMJD ? How did you treat it or recovered from it?

Does your insurance cover this? Why didnt he explain in detail?

I never heard of it. Did you have tooth grinding in sleep before this issues started?

Dental insurance doesn't cover. Medical covers though. But none of the office accept medical. We have to claim it. I haven't tried that before. So, I have to pay out of pocket and claim the insurance. I don't know if that will work out. If the claim is rejected, then it's going to be my out of pocket. But the dental office wants the money upfront. I don't know if this is reliable. Planning to get another opinion.
But the treatment in my state comes around 4to5k$. I asked in few other places.
The treatment is just mentioned like giving the appliance to us. Mouth appliance.

Can you get a second opinion? Since you can have all the records from the current provider, you can request another dentist or specialist to look at the assessment to see what he/she thinks.
