Case No. 2020

Part 1


The emergency meeting of court 2020 has been called suddenly. Chief justice was sitting in the middle surrounded by four assistant justices on the right side and four on the left side. There were millions of stars standing outside the court; all came straight from the planet earth, waiting for the justice to be delivered.


They were all very nervous and anxious. Everyone had the same question, why were they being called all of a sudden from earth to a new world, without any prior notice? They had left many unfinished tasks back there. They could see while standing, that even now a huge number of stars have been traveling continuously.


Some of them were known to each other, trying to greet and talk as usual but realized they had left their bodies back on the ground. Some of them were cremated but some were still lying amidst piles of dead bodies and difficult to identify.


Even the gatekeeper was amused to see such a large number of stars outside the court. This time everything was different from previous scenarios. Stars were coming from all seven continents of the world. Rich-poor, male-female, kids-young-old aged, from different occupations, there was no discrimination or bias. The reason was not only the pandemic spread all over the world but also natural calamities, suicides, other diseases, road, rail and flight accidents as well. The hearing started finally.


Main Courtier – “My lord, all the stars are present outside the court. Should I call them according to the continents or based on any other category? Waiting for your order, Sir.


Chief Justice – “We are changing our judicial system this time. As you all know the numbers are quite high, so it would be better to call them based on some categories. In the first category, I would like to meet all those stars who had damaged and played with 5 elements of nature and hunted different kinds of animals, birds, and other organisms to satisfy their taste buds.”


The main courtier came at the door and announced the criteria. It was shocking to see 90% of the stars entered the courtroom. They had no sign of regret, instead of surrounded by their ego.


All the justices looked at them carefully, checked their files, and the deeds mentioned. They had a discussion among themselves. After a while, chief justice started, “I have created heaven or paradise, whatever you want to call it, on earth for you all. I provided all the natural resources in abundance. But your greed and hunger had increased uncontrollably. You started cutting trees and reduced oxygen levels. Redundant and useless industrialism resulted in the emission of harmful gases. Air pollution, water pollution, noise pollution, and in the name of so-called socialism and globalization, you turned the whole world into the trash. Many natural calamities had been coming from time to time to warn you, but you were adamant and always ignored all kinds of warnings. To momentarily satisfy your taste buds, you didn’t think twice before using speechless and weak animals and organisms. Now nature has not left with any other option but to show its furious side.” After taking a pause he said, “If you want to say anything in your favor, you can.”


Most of the stars were silent, as their ego got shattered and the guilty feeling made them miserable. Some of the stars came forward and said in a low voice, “My lord, we are very sorry for our behavior. We have realized our mistakes. We know that it is unpardonable but still, we request you to give us one more chance. We will transform the world into paradise once again. Please let us go back on earth and we will not let you down this time.”


Chief Justice – “The decision is under consideration. Wait for the right time.”


Assistant Justice – “The proceeding has been adjourned till next hearing. Main Courtier! Please inform the gatekeeper to make an announcement for all addicted stars to be present for the next hearing.”


Main Courtier – “As you say, Sir.”

Part 2


The court proceedings started at the scheduled time at Chief Justice’s order. All addicted stars had been called to the court.


When the gatekeeper instructed them to go inside, he was surprised to see that 95% of the previous day’s 90% were going inside. The shame and guilt were clearly visible as they had to be present once again in the second category as well.


Assistant justices discussed the case and handed the file to Chief justice. He looked at the stars sharply, “Most of you were present in the previous hearing as well. Usage of alcohol, tobacco, cigarettes, and different kinds of drugs had reduced your body’s immunity and hence you were not able to fight against this epidemic. By spreading smoke, spitting around, earning money illicitly for alcohol and drugs, you filled the toxins not only in your body but even polluted your family and society. You all spoiled the earth’s dignity and natural beauty by disregarding social norms and overlooking the moral values of humanity. Do you accept yourself as guilty? Do you have anything to say in your defense?”

Some unruly and rude stars started giving their plea, “My lord, our life was very stressful. We wanted to get rid of the stress of some financial and mental troubles. So we chose addiction.”


Chief Justice – “You have invited the long term loss while finding a solution to your life problem in such short term measures. If you had chosen to meditate and remember God in those difficult situations, you would have got better resolutions. You could have shared your pain and problems with your family, friends, and relatives and they would have advised you and helped you to overcome those situations.”


Everyone admitted their mistakes and asked for the pardon and took an oath to not repeat it again.


“The decision will be delivered on scheduled time.” Chief justice adjourned the court.


Assistant Justice asked the main courtier to announce, “Those who had shown irresponsible behavior towards their family, society, country and the whole world would be present in the next hearing.”


Main Courtier – “As you order, Sir!”

 

Part 3

Proceedings began timely and promptly. Everything was set up just before; the only shocking difference was that even in this category some of the previous category’s stars again showed up with new stars. Those stars were feeling embarrassed and humiliated. The file was presented to the Chief Justice and after having a careful look he began.


“Some of you had not cared about your family. After traveling from different places and red zone areas, you simply ignored the law of social and physical distancing. Not just you but your whole family got infected with the virus. You did not follow the cleanliness rules advised by W.H.O. and broke government-regulated lockdown rules. Not only to show your rage, you came on roads but also did some illicit deeds secretly and risked thousands of lives along with yours. And the result is you all are standing here today.”


Some stars intervened and spoke, “My lord, we were helpless. We were scared of those isolation facilities and quarantine areas. If we had gone there, society would have treated us as untouchables and disgraced us. So we traveled through the road illegally. We had not left with any money or work and that’s why we wanted to reach our native place.”


Chief justice tried to explain them patiently, “But now the result is in front of you. Your family has lost you forever. You were the sole breadwinner. If you would have thought and acted patiently in such tough circumstances, maybe the outcome would have something better.”


Some of the stars understood his point and realized their mistakes but most of them were still considered them as a victim of the situation and making excuses.


Chief Justice - “When a person is in a tough situation, he is not able to think properly and make wise decisions. He starts doing things arbitrarily rather than logically. But this time is not about creating rifts based on regionalism, caste, and religion. This crisis is all over humanity and everyone has to fight against it together. This is the time to help and support each other being distant from the negativity of accusations, dirty politics, black marketing, disbelief, and hatred. But you failed in doing so and the result is in front of you. If you have anything to say in your favor, here is your chance.”


All the illegal and inappropriate deeds that were done in the last 2-3 months, reeled down as a film in front of these stars. Everyone accepted their mistakes and sought for pardon. The order to wait for a decision was given by the chief justice.


Main Courtier announced, “Tomorrow’s hearing is scheduled for all kinds of service personnel like doctors, nurses, medical workers, police, and media workers who had lost their lives in this pandemic.”

 

Part 4


Today’s judicial assembly was very special. Although the number of stars in this category was less than previous categories, an important question was running in their mind since the time they arrived. After taking so much care and precautions what went wrong? What was their mistake after all that they had to face this trouble?


The proceedings started as always.

Chief justice started with respect in his voice, “First of all, myself and all my colleagues applaud you for the selfless services you have given in the last 4-5 months. Your appreciation is beyond any words. Different countries showed their gratitude in various ways - by clapping and ringing the bell, by blowing a conch shell, by lighting candles, by an aerial shower of flower petals, and covering your services through print, electronic and social media. You had fulfilled your duties and responsibilities without caring about your own lives. You didn’t even think about your family. Some of you were newlyweds. Few women were pregnant and some of you had very small kids. You had to leave them with their grandparents and even after coming home, you could just watch them from a distance. Your file is proof of your selfless service, sacrifice, and your devotion towards your duties. ”


Some stars filled with emotions and questioned the chief justice, “After doing all this, why are we standing in front of you today?”


Chief justice understood their pain and answered, “Whenever the history of 2020 would be written, your service and sacrifice would be imprinted in golden words. But this is a universal truth that a reward or punishment is fixed for every deed and would be given at a particular time. Hence, even after taking all the precautions in this terrifying situation, you couldn’t be left untouched. If any of you would like to say something, you can speak.”


Some of the stars came forward and said, “My lord, we are very thankful for your kind words. We were just doing our duties and helping our country and people in this difficult situation and desired to do it further but perhaps destiny wanted this. We just want to request you that if we ever get a chance to go back on earth, we would like to play the same role and serve our nation and humanity.”


After understanding the universal truth of Karma, all the stars were feeling content and satisfied.


As there is still some time left in completion of the court timing, assistance justice suggested, “Should we call the next category’s stars today itself?”


Chief Justice – “There are very important stars from the earth in the next category, so the next day is assigned to them. Now we adjourn the court.”
