Hi everyone, I am due at the end of this month. I have a toddler as well. I am thinking about cooking some food and freezing it. I am thinking about 2-3 weeks worth food depending on storage in freezer. My question is what kind of containers should I use or can I use ziploc bags? What is a good size for the containers and ziploc bags? What kind of Indian dishes are good for freezing? Please note that we live in a remote area and I cook vegetables from Walmart and Indian veggies like bottlegourd or ridge gourd are not available to me. Nearest Indian grocery or restaurant is 2 hrs away for me. We don’t eat a lot of Indian breakfast items like Idli, upma etc.. I am more focused on curries, fries etc..TIA

    Daal
    Sambar/rasam/kootu
Dry curry with beans, cabbage, cauliflower, peas, carrots
    Gravies
Masala paste and bases for subzi
    Chole/rajma
    Palak paneer/ aloo palak

I don’t like to freeze dishes where potato is the main ingredient. I use Glad plastic containers for freezing. You can use Ziploc freezer bags. If you freeze them flat it will save space.

please see my answer which I gave in 2006 :)... also go through that thread ...ok vaa? :)

    Hi,

I will also store like you and we (me my husband and my son) also completely depend on Fridge and Freezer. I am in Saudi Arabia and my son is studying in India. So generaly I use to store for him while I visit to Saudi and I will store for my husband while I visit to India.

I will keep Coffee Powder, Pappad, All My home made Ready made powders
Tamarind paste(Home made), Fried moor miligai etc., in fridge's Veg. box.

In the freezer I will keep, cut vegetables, thuvailas, Tomato rice concentrate, Lemon Juice cubes,Sambar, cooked potatoes, small onions, peeled garlic, grated ginger, Methi leave, corinder leaves, curry leaves, Pulav masala, house made kootu podi with coconut, grated coconut, Idlies, dosa with dosa miligai powder, chappati dough or even chappati etc.,

We have to use full use of fridge and freezer I think. :
