    This is Love

'Did you say something? He asked, moving his head out from the crumpled newspaper in his hands.

'No! Nothing ' she replied glancing aimlessly towards the ceiling.

This is the beginning of the opening of the closed chapters of their long married life. This gives them extra ammunition to pull each other down in their own way, of course.

'What nothing? If you do not want my sitting here and reading the newspaper, say so. Why talk in metaphors?’

'You don't seem to be reading the paper'

    'Why do you say that?'

'The TV is on with that stupid 'tick-tock' cricket match, you can't do, both together'

'So you want to watch that silly sil, dil, mil sops!'

    'I didn't say that! ,

'You don't say anything, your body language says everything. I know you!'

'Really? When was the last time you looked at me? '

    'Forget it'

'Forget what? How can I forget what you told me when we first met?'

    'What did I say?'

'That, you will ever keep me happy.'

'I don't remember what I or you said some sixty years ago. I can't even remember what I ate for dinner yesterday'

'So you want to say my cooking is not worth remembering!'

'Do you remember what date was four days ago?'

'Must have been, let me think, what date is today?'

'I know, I know. It was my birthday and you did not even wish me. I have been waiting and waiting. And you remember what I said 60 years ago!'

'You know I am not good at numbers, you could have reminded me or given me some hints!'

    'Very simple excuse! '

'So, you don't want me to sit here, okay I will move into the bedroom. We have only two rooms; where else you want me to go?'

'You were not born a princess. It's enough for two of us'

'I was a princess for my parents, you made me maid'

'I did the best I could'

    'So did I'

'Forget about it. Let me go out and breathe some fresh year.'

'And gossip with that fatty Panwala !'

'What is it to you? ' opens the door and goes out.

'It is raining outside, take this umbrella and don't break your bones, the road is slippery'

    Hmm.

Senior couples may bicker but love flows under current. Companionship, taking care of each other replaces romance. Reminds me of my parents. When my mother was visiting her siblings in the same city....he used to feel lost. But he does not go....saying it is boring, let the sisters talk. Nag us saying....what is there to talk so much!!! When she comes back....no nagging or complaining. Immersed in his book!

I guess love is another name of taking care. In old age it may be a bit selfish because both depend on each other as there is no one to help in case of need.

Adter a certain age a communication gap develops due to either psychological or physical problems.Either you can't hear or you don't want to hear. Psychologically the couple tends to be in different wavelengths. It is a rare couple indeed that is on the same wavelength.

:hello:kudos to you. The resentment blistering repartee and after all that concern because the other remains close to heart as always been.
That is between spouses throughout their married life.
But the I wonder what had behind triggered you to make a lovely post out of it. Well done.
By the way belated many happy returns of yesterday and day before and day day day before! I just responded a while before a poem of love by @ARIKA .

    Regards.

I think they have nothing to say. The animal instinct is dead. All what they need each other for is company to kill the feeling of loneliness. Health permitting they should go out, visit friends, eat outside and try to mix with fresh environment. Sitting at home all the time is not good for elders.

We are born selfish. The life later teaches us some lessons of selflessness but the basic nature never changes.
