I use Pitambari for brass Pooja items
& Fot copper tumblers to remove the corrosion.
Use Barkeeper's friend for silver items.
Is using for prolonged period takes away the metal?

Vedha, this is not a good idea. On the Bar Keepers Friend website, under "Surface Guide" there's a popup which says:

    Thank you @Amica .
What else to make silver clean as new and shining?
I tried tooth paste, baking soda n silver foil in hotwater.

Does the last method didn't work? Silver foil and baking soda? It works for me.

Another question. Sorry to add in to your question @Vedhavalli...
How do you all clean gold jewels? I have a chain which I was wearing it for sometime. I am not using it now. So, it becomes pink and it's a discoloration. How to clean those? Should I give it for polish or any diy cleaning works better?

Pink discoloration is due to high copper content in gold alloy. If it's not a memorable piece you can exchange too.
You can clean with mild soap or shampoo.
My grandma would rub Namakatti with her jewels and wash.
Heard from others you can clean using vibuti.

For cleaning silver, I've always used Silvo. But I hear Weiman's is popular these days.

For cleaning brass fixtures and decor items, I use Brasso. For things that may come in contact with food, I use tamarind. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done.

For copper, I use Wright's. For copper that comes in contact with food, I sprinkle a lemon half with salt, use that to lightly scrub the copper surface and rinse immediately with water.

I've never tried the baking soda and aluminum foil thing for silver. IIRC, the original instructions for this method said to also add water softener to the boiling water.

Never ever let your silver come in contact with rubber.

    What is Pitambari?

I wash with ritha. And get them polished by a jeweler when necessary.

I tried vibuti. That works a bit. I will try with namakatti. I am in the US and couldn't find any polishing jewelry shop nearby.
One of my friend's mangalsutra is discolored. She is in India though. So, i think polishing in the jewelry shop will work better for her. But she is little hesitant to do that. Any of you done polishing for the mangalsutra?
