    I read what was on your post. And distilled these two points.

    Lots of merchants (flowers, restaurants, shops that sell jewellery, chocolates, and other gifts) depend on some business on such days. In some countries, Feb-14 is when girls fete boys, and March-14 is when boys fete girls -- and make sure their return treats are of much higher value to the girls. Economy as a whole moves ahead when all this goes on.
