Since you are paying out of pocket why not go to diff clinic ?
PT is slow process but on the other hand there are lot of pts who don’t know how to effectively treat the patients . You should ask around to get feedback from people or read reviews online . Even if you switch pt and if it doesn’t work out you can still go back the old one . If they are professional they don’t take it personally. You shouldn’t be scared to switch pts . In fact when I initially started my treatment I tried 3 different pts and then stick to one . Usually in our area the first visit is seen by main doctor and then follow ups are with assistants . You should be comfortable letting the front desk know that you would like to different person for different issues . If you have time please ask around . I have had mixed experience with pts .

Where are you in the US?
In my area, the first visit starts with the same PT. No assistant or main doctor. It will be one on one session for one hour with the same PT Everytime.
I did ask the front desk. They told me another pt can look into it,but she is not specialist in that joint. I can try her if I like it.
As I said, I don't know anyone who did PT here. I am going with Google reviews only. I am just thinking so much to change PT is because, my current pt knows better about my body now. She see me for past 12 visits and she treats my knees and hands. So now she understand my ability like what I can do and what I cannot. So that's the reason I am thinking so much to change PT.
I can try different practice too. But this place is convenient to my location. That's why sticking to it.

    @gknew,

    Didn’t get any PM.

No need to give reasons. You can cancel anytime.

Why paying out of pocket? I went to my pcp and explained my issue, she ordered xrays then scheduled me for 6 or 8 sessions of pt. I only paid my copay for each session. Out of pocket means you are paying full price with no adjustments!!! Why??? 12 sessions is a looot and you are not seeing improvement still.

Didn’t your docs recommend anyone? Did you ask? You can call their office even now, tell the clerk the pt isn’t working and ask them to recommend a shoulder and knee expert. You really don’t need 2 separate pts for each, you will just pay double unnecessarily. Treatment has to be holistic so one pt is only better.

My pcp recommended a place but it was downtown no parking. So I picked my pt from provider list by typing in body part and checked profiles etc. Distance doesn’t matter for me expertise, estimated time of recovery does. I also checked with coworkers, my kids school parent list, my neighbors, my friends, spouse, his friends for recos, Yelp is good for reviews, place should have good parking and not be in downtown area - I am paranoid about that.

Thank you so much for the reply again.
I started off with my PCP. But she didn't do any x-ray or prescribe pt. She always send me back home with sheet of exercises.
Then I was not able to bear the iron. I sent to the ortho and then second opinion with sports medicine doctor.
I am sorry about saying paying out of pocket. I mean to say that I have very high deductible so I am paying a huge amount from my side.
    Where are you in USA?
I don't know anyone here who did PT. So just going on with Google reviews.
Yeah. 12 sessions are a lot.I have 8 more sessions planned with her. She is treating my knee and hand.
I have to try a different practice on my own and see how it is.

    Just an update.
I did call few PT office and asked for the price and appointment availability. All the pt facilities whom I called, they don't have any pt specific for knee or shoulder. Everyone will treat all the parts.
I asked the price of each visit. I didn't meet my deductible yet. So it will be out of pocket till I reach my deductible. I have 3000$ deductible. The cost of one visit in the old PT office where I was going costs me 115$. I have enquired in few offices and they told the price as 360$, 320$ per visit. I have to call few more and see how much does it cost.
I will be having around 8 more sessions of PT more. So, if I choose the new PT office and I pay for 8 visits and I would have meet my deductible and remaining visits (if I extend to have more) , it cost 36$.
So, I am just thinking now to change it or go with the existing pt itself.
Also, the new place PTs have PT assistants. And 3 PT's are there in the office and we will be seeing each pt every visit. And also, assistant will be dealing with us most of the time and pt would come in if I need to talk. These information I got it from the front desk.
I asked the doctor office now. They gave me a pt office name and number. I checked that online and it has only 4 reviews. So, I don't know if I should go with it since my doctor recommended it.
    Any thoughts anyone.

Did they gave you any Home EXERCISES plan ????
Bursitis ALWAYS RECOVER using ice every 15 to 20 min 4-5 times a day.
Patella alta IS UPward DISLOCATION of Patella, some of CONSERVATIVE measures.

    • Rest: from aggravating activities to allow any inflammation to settle

    • Strengthening Exercises: strengthening the knee, kneecap and buttock muscles can help to correct patella position and thus reduce pain and improve knee stability with a high riding patella

    • Physical Therapy: Manual therapy can help to improve the resting position of the kneecap

    • Patellar Taping: taping can also help to correct the position of the patella

    • Ice Packs: regularly applying ice packs can help reduce pain and inflammation with symptomatic patella alta

    • Knee Brace: wearing a brace can help to reduce the symptoms of a high riding patella. Ideally, the brace should have a tubular section which sits above the kneecap to stop it riding up

Did u call back pcp office and tell them exercises didn’t work you want pt can she prescribe pt for your leg? Some insurances it is a process. First exercises then pt then surgery... Generally if you have a referral from a doc for pt 1) insurance will cover 2) doc will prescribe for fixed number of visits so pt has accountability. Pt has to show improvement within visit times. Can’t extend.

Call your benefits hotline and enquire if you have coverage for pt if referring doc orders it.

That said you may be on a different kind of insurance where this is not covered. If so just go for the one you feel comfortable.

In general I do max 1 or 2 visits per week and in between do exercises and icing at home. And always give feedback so she adjust towards overall less pain. How is your health in general? Do you walk do stretches are you eating healthy, how is your weight? All these also matter. Pt is slow process body need time to adjust to stretches and exercises so be patient. Space out visits if unavoidable.

    Thanks for replying!!
I tried all the conservative methods for my knee and no improvement.
I have the home exercises and doing it at home. I am going to PT to get more manual therapy and dry needling. My pt says I need dry needling and that might help me.
My hand pain is not only in shoulders. It's in elbow, wrist, shoulder (forearm area). And also neck(left side). My current pt is treating my upper back, elbow, wrist. She give me exercises for all of them. I have different diagnosis for my hands. One doctor said it's mild tennis elbow, mild carpel tunnel. Another doctor said shoulder bursitis. So, my PT covers everything. My hand pain has been there for more than a month now. It's like burning pain and hurts to touch in the elbow, wrist joint, forearm area (shoulder). So not sure what's the issue actually.

I am not with PCP for these issues now. I am with Ortho sports medicine doctor and I have a referral for my PT. My insurance accepts referral for pt and i can go for 8 visits without even a referral. And can go to PT with a referral with a required number of weeks which pt can decide. No issues with the insurance side. I have a high deductible plan. So I have to pay the visit amount till I reach deductible. So it's little expensive.
And i did told my Ortho that pt is not helping. They told me to try another one and gave me the contacts. But that centre has only 4 reviews. So, I don't know if I can blindly go on there since Ortho recommended.
Health wise.. No issues. I am obese. That's the only issue. I am 5'7" and 87kg.
Even I contact my PCP this week to check for inflammation markers. I have been told by all the doctors that hand and knee pain is still there because of Inflammation. So, I asked my PCP to check blood work for those. I also have a very bad hair loss for past 2 years. So, she tested auto immune and inflammation markers. All were negative. Just got the results today. Only my iron value is low and she prescribed supplements.
But my knee and hand pain is not improving much with the pt. I know it takes time. But it's taking a lot of time and no signs of improvement. That's why I have been frustrated.
