How can you differentiate if your feelings are hurt and you feel sad or angry. Or are you just being egoistic.
    Examples welcome.

I didn’t understand in what context you are asking. There are plenty of scenarios which can cause similar feelings.

Let’s say there were some kind of arguments between a husband and wife. Both would have been hurt. But there is one thing which is called the truth, where one was being unreasonable and wrong and yet was arguing.

The argument done by the unreasonable person could have hurt the wife, for example and she would be hurt, sad and even angry. The husband would have felt hurt but wasn’t able to get down from his stance and his ego would have prevented from lowering down or stepping away or even to come for some compromise.

    When something goes wrong:

    - 'I never thought it would go this way... tough lesson learnt'- sad/ angry
    - 'I am never wrong, lets see who distracted me from getting it right'- ego

Sad/ anger at least have a potential to better you
While with ego you are already perfect ( or so you think) and no 1.... no room for betterment. Ego needs constant validation.
