Education - Why I have inferiority complex

I was not born with a silver spoon in my mouth, I know many are not born . Since we were not well off during my childhood I had the inferiority complex and never used to talk much. Get scared to talk , feel odd when among rich people. Since I studied in a Convent School , thanks to the aunty who got admission in the same school as in between when I was in 3rd standard my uncle lost his hotel with whom we were staying and we shifted to a different place and my father had to work in a canteen as acook making sweets, he was expert in making Jilebi. One year we were at home, our neighbour aunty put us in school again . In School there was no problem because everyone wore school dress , but on Saturdays we had to wear any dress and I used to feel I did not have much clothes to wear. Those days dresses were bought only for Diwali.

While studying I never used to learn the meaning of the subjects but I was good in byhearting so used to write the same whatever in the book. I was good in Maths so no byhearting and you cant byheart also. Being a Leo I had Leo qualities in me and want to be always the best and on the Top. In Hindi while writing essays I used to refer other books and write essays and my Hindi teacher was very satisfied with me and use dto tell me after Xth you go to College u will get scholarship. But I could not go to college because in our days parents used to feel for girls studying upto Xth is more than enough and then they want to get them married. I got a job as a Teacher , since I was very shy and had no patience of preparing notes etc I did not like the job though my students were very fond of me. I told my father I dont want to work as a Teacher. The Supervisor used to come to see how we teach but somehow I used to give something to write to the children so that Supervisor wont be able to see. Actually being very shy and nervous Teaching job was not good for me but after I left I used to give tuitions to my friend's relatives. When I had gone for her son's marriage by that time her niece and nephews whom I used to teach had grown up and had their own children and her nephew introduced to his son and told him this aunty only taught me and whatever I am teaching is taught by her. I felt so nice hearing this.

Through my brother I got a job as a Typist which I had learnt after Xth. In the first job I had to sit in front of the boss because there were very few people and on eroom only. I used to feel very nervous and any problems I used to ask my colleaugue. Then we shifted to Mumbai and in two days I got another job because of the recommendation of the boss in Hyderabad were I worked. First I joined as a Typist, then with the recommendation of my bosses was promoted as Steno and then as Senior Assistant. When others became officers I used to feel if I was aGraduate I would have got Officer post.

education and experience both are required in life.
If a person has many degrees to his/her name and working at a job, all the degrees will not be utilised all the time. It doesnot make a huge difference.(eg. IT industry a bca graduate earns the same as a engineer or MBA graduate)
    But
if you have a job and no degree it makes a huge difference.. you will never be allowed to grow much.

    Dear Viji,
In the beginning of 20th century, girls were not allowed to go to school at all. My mother born in 1903 studied upto 3rd standard only. Her entire life was spent in kitchen to cook for 30 people in a joint family and in grinding idli/dosa batter in manual grinding stone. But I have to see yet another brilliant woman as my mother. She learnt everything by experience. While Appa was giving English tuition in the front pyol,(thinnai) she used to listen from the service area and learnt so much of English grammar. She was very much interested in Maths. Appa used to get her Maths book alone for all the classes. Her afternoon hrs were spent in doing problems in the cemented floor of cowshed with a chalk or broken kal satti( maakkal)When I came to 9 th std, she was so efficient in algebra and used to teach simultaneous equation.
Whenever cooks were employed for functions, she used to gather essential points and noted them down in one side sheets. She knew how to set things right when any major flaw was in cooking.
She was an expert in advising what not to do and to avoid probable errors.
It was the inquisitiveness to learn from all the opportunities. She had a flair for music. She knew to compose songs In Tamil-lullaby to elegy- and also composed songs for Kolaatta jothra.
From her mother-in-law ( maternal grandmother) she learnt the art of conducting safe delivery at home.
All my sisters /cousins delivered at home and my mother attended to the birth of nearly 60 grandchildren at home. When I was in 5th std (1950) there was a patti manram by Namakkal Kavignar.Amma clad in simple cotton madisar saree raised certain questions from the audience which stunned the audience. Namakkal Kavignar asked Amma to come to the stage and say what she felt. I could not understand anything but joined the clapping.
She was a concrete example of how experience could shape a person.
Another lady, equally I regard, is my dear Motherinlaw about whom I had already written a snippet, She had never stepped into any school, since her father was a conservator of forests in Quilon forest region in Kerala and there were no schools in the forest.A Nair lady came home home to teach them Malyalam, Sanskrit and English. Within 10 years she grasped so many things. Her father taught her Tamil, our mother tongue. Only by her experience she learnt so many things in life and she was a god mother to me and was a pillar of support during crisis.
I am very fortunate to be blessed with a mother and MIL -an enviable position in those days .
I am 100% conviced that pattarivu( knowledge gained experience) is more valuable than padipparivu( knowledge gained by formal education)

:hello:That is genuine. Had I been a graduate I would have become ....

    2. Undergraduates have genuine feeling and crave to turn into graduate. It is natural. But there are hundreds of graduates and post graduates loitering g in lower non Officer post and mostly work not related to their studies or specialisation at all.
    3. Only contacts and smartness helps shape up the career in majority cases and a bit of luck of course. Luck can come in disguise it can be even husband or scholarship or an accident or doing good to some one.

    • A boy was waiting at the gates of huge hotel in Dehradoon. The gate-keeper was telling him no vacancy and told not to stand blocking the entrance gate. It was happening at a particular hour daily when the proprietor was driving into hotel.
    • Watching this scene happening daily, the proprietor impressed with the boy’s persistence and perseverance, one day stopped by and enquired him what class he had studied. He said he is not a graduate. But Ready to do any job. The proprietor looked at his foot in shoes. He wore shoes and torn socks yet it was glistening. He took him into his fold as desk clerk and step by step he rose in the hierarchy.
    • When proprietor left India for England before independence, he handed over his hotel to the boy at some price. The boy raised resources by selling his spouse jewellery and ornaments. The boy grew to manage the world over his hotel group known as OBEROI.
    • In opening ceremony of EVERY new BRANCH of his hotel in another part of India or elsewhere, he used the same diamond studded golden scissors.
He never regretted that he lacked graduation .
more details of this centenarian MS Oberoi can be had in link

    Mohan Singh Oberoi - Wikipedia

So the point is no need either to introspect or regret that hard you been graduate you would have been there. You have done wonderfully this far and probably much better than many graduates ever will. In Home university you are already a post graduate - IYER VIJI - MS - HU (India)

    Thanks and Regards.

God rewards enterprising hardworking thinking (wo)man.

What iyerviji writes is quite the truth. Some have lots of dumb luck, and some do not. That is all there is to it.
