They believe strongly in "never waste food" and think inconveniencing others is OK in their well-intention'ed venture, I guess.

I would just use that tomato on hands, elbows and knees to lighten it and then throw it off... Good enough for external use I suppose . Though I can't understand why would someone give leftover food to neighbors ,two three days old daal and sabji? How do they assume people eat leftovers, lot of people don't eat it. I myself never keep anything apart from vegetables, fruit and dairy in fridge.

Handing over half a tomato is really odd behavior.
Question: Do you have a compost spot in your garden ?
Cut the onion, and then peel -- is often the way chef's teach (on youtube).

    Love your ramblings :)

Totally understand the yuck factor. I think every fridge has its own eco system - so exposed food/ cooked food from another fridge kind of unsettles the eco system of my fridge

Maybe time to tell her now-a-days you dont use left overs or cut n stored vegetables anyway, so better for her to dispose them. Or you could be like me, the stress of putting this nicely is more painful than the hassle of cleaning up a few dishes, and so I just let things remain status quo.
    Sorry for not being helpful

You started me on navigating about onions on the internet.

People going to India for winter holidays are going to be asked to bring some onions.

never! What if she tells someone else that my neighbor doesn’t hesitate accepting leftover food from my fridge ? I would put them in a pot and let tomatoes grow. Or will Tell them that I had to throw all she gave as we had guests and don’t use leftovers or had dinner lunch invites and so had to throw or simply say my habits changed these days as I eat piping hot fresh food. Do it a couple of times. Next time she will not give.

When you return the container, regretfully tell her that you had to throw most of it out since you had no space in your fridge. Tell her to tell you in advance so you can accommodate/decide based on your convenience. Hopefully she will get the message.

@Rihana also got me to learn more about Sudha Murthy.

IIT-K students ask Sudha questions and get answers.

I would like to think people have the best of intentions but this half rotten tomato/ onion and coriander leaves with old subzi is plain unacceptable. One sometimes wonders if these people give some thought before doing things or the only goal is to just get rid of the guilt of wasting food.

How about saying your fridge is full ( mine normally is ) and even one half of a rotting tomato would prevent the fridge door from closing?
