    Hello Ladies,

I am undergoing my third miscarriage now. Can anyone please assist me what are the tests to be performed before conceiving again? I have recently relocated to a different country and went to a doctor here. I am not getting satisfactory answers. Quite confused.

    Thanks!

In case of IVF doctors will suggest pre- implantation Genetic screening (PGS) to check for any issues in the chromosomes.
If you have conceived naturally doctors can still do genetic testing on the embryo/fetus once they carefully take out the embryo after the D&C procedure.

I have spoken to a lady(colleague) who had a 2nd miscarriage(natural conception) and her doctor did the genetic testing (around 15 years back).

They give a report of all the chromosomes and this report will give an idea why the miscarriage has happened (Eg: Trisomy - Just I am stating an example for you to understand further ) and this chromosomal abnormality is because of some defect in the egg or sperm. (which is difficult to detect).

It depends on the doctors . Some suggest these tests after 2 MCs. Some after 4 to 6 MCs(recurrent miscarriage).
For me when I had my first MC my doctor suggested not to go for any testing even though I insisted because all this will cause unnecessary worry and tension.
    Also these tests are expensive.
Eg: In case of IVF they will not test 1 embryo. They need multiple embryos to test and compare and finally they will transfer the best embryo which has no chromosomal abnormality. So it may take repeated cycles to give a few embryos to the doctor.

Have a word with your doctor and insist that you would like to get these tests done because you have already faced 3 MCs. Take second/third opinion from other doctors.

Also I know how hurtful miscarriage can be and it can break you to pieces but it's not a bad thing dearie.
Most early stage miscarriages happen due to chromosomal abnormalities like I mentioned above. Our body(the immune system) identifies this abnormal cell division and aborts the growth of the fetus by itself. :) which is a good thing and thank your body for that . (I like to see the positive side of the story always).

So trust your body. I know there is too much science involved in all this but trust god and believe in your body . Not that all the times our body produces abnormal eggs or abnormal sperms. So miscarriage is not a permanent thing and many women go on and give birth to healthy children after MC.

I suggest you read this "it starts with the egg" book by Rebecca Fett just in case you are curios to know the science behind all this :) but at the same time do not worry and try to keep yourself happy and positive .

Good luck and keep trying .

I know about 2 cases where they got success after 3 MCs. One of them now have 2 kids. Your words show your positive attitude towards this but wanted to let you know to keep up your confidence. All the best for your journey. Take care.

Thanks a lot Anusha for the detailed answer. When I asked the doctor whether he could assist me in collecting the foetus, he just told me it's not required and you can directly do chromosomal study with your blood samples. I am not sure which is effective. Appears he wouldn't perform any study and I will have to reach some other hospital to do that. Will request him to collect the samples.

You have no idea how much confidence your words gave me right now. Thanks a lot :) I just wish the miscarriages will end with this one and god will bless me with the little one soon. Praying is what I can do now.

I am not very sure about this.. Because the entire process of testing is carried out by studying that micro cell from the embryo. But this is my knowledge. If a doctor says so then he will definitely know better. So explore your options. :)

The basic problem is I have trust issues. I am yet to find the reliable doctor here. I moved to this country just 3-4 months back and have absolutely no idea about any doctors. Just going by reference and I am quite not satisfied yet. To be honest, I am totally confused. The doc just told me don't waste money on doing the test on fetus and just test your blood samples. Appears he wouldn't screen anything as well and I will have to go somewhere else to do these tests later. I am not even sure whether these things are normal.

@WantMagic the doctor is correct by blood samples.
My neighbor had 3 miscarriages in 3 yrs. 3rd time hit her much, because her parents took care of her like baby. But God had different plans. Now she has a adorable son of 7 yrs. Her doctor determined some defect from her blood samples I don't remember very accurate.
Be positive, I had a painful miscarriage. It still hurts me. Now I have a lil tigress at home.
    Wantmagic will get magic.
Search doc thru hospitals. Try reviews and recommendations.
All the best and hugs for your boldness.

I stopped trusting the doctors..
And trust none but myself, my body and God..
Having said that I'm not giving that suggestion to you..
Find a reliable doctor through online reviews or some facebook groups etc and go ahead with the required tests.. Keep believing that "one day that tiny one will be in our hands " . :)

I had 2 miscarriage in 2 years. we were having difficulties getting pregnant and every time I took steps to seek medical help, I got pregnant only to lose the baby in first trimester & then spent another 6 months recovering and naturally trying. Its frustrating. The first miscarriage physically hurt me and took longer to recover because the actual miscarriage didn't happen until 11 weeks. But emotionally I was somewhat positive that it happens to many people & happy that we don't have to go thru medical route.

I waited and waited and waited some more to get pregnant & didn't happen. so a year later I saw a specialist. They wanted lots of blood work, sperm analysis & me taking thyroid medication & HSG test later. When we talked about me going to doctor on first day of my next period to do baseline evaluation & start IUI process, I got pregnant again. Thanking god for accepting my prayers & saving me from all the needles of fertility aid only to lose the baby at 6 month. This time physically it wasn't too bad but emotionally we are both broken. We both really thought this time will be it & I rested a lot. Now I have to wait until recover and then few more cycles before I can start any fertility treatment & my body does feel weaker
