I am an indian and I am proud of It.Indians have high regard for their motherland. We stand one apart from being from different background , languages and culture. We have a vast diversity within ourselvesand yet stand one as a single unit in front of the world.

Yet we fail to respect ourselves. We think multiple times if we were to buy a Made In India Good.We search for any label that mentions other than our own indegenous labels. We are known to be very adjusting, but not with the items we use.The british ruled us for over 200 years. Our english doesn't seem to be any good after being in such long term close interaction with the people of the language. We have clearly misunderstood 'adjustment' with 'compromise' and 'being accomodative'.

We have a big heart that in a two seater in bus we share it with another personas well so that he/ she can be seated through the journey. We fail to realise that all three will be seated in an uncomfrtable position throughout the journey. Same reflects in all walks of the life of an Indian.

We tend to make use of the few seconds in between the red signal and the time taken for those whose signal has been cleared and rage ahead on the road to reach office on time ie., around 10 30ish:smirk:

We rush to the store to buy something .We are okay to not wait in the queue to bill . Suddenly we bypass the queue and storm the billing counter and get ours billed with a request that we are on dire emergency!
Some times at such situations we do not insist that whatever we buy gets billed properly. we just pay the amount and leave without even collecting the bill for it.

We are unaware of the loss we make for the country's economy. We would later sit at home and watch news on high prices and blame the government. We go to government offices and would like to get our jobs done quicky and hence make adjustments there by thrusting some money in to the hands of a person and assign him with the process and just act like a queen /King and just sign the form and wait proudly in a place and get things done.

We take pride of our old temples that stand as a writ proof for the engineering skills of our ancestors that protect us from heavy sun rain or cold weather. We all visit such temples take selfies groupfies and get paid photographs as proof of our visit there. We also try to etch our memories by writing the name of our loved ones believing that God will bless us seeing those names:smiley: We comfortably forget that there might be atleast few hundreds of people in the same name.We cannot wait in the queue. to see the lord. we look for the ticket counters that ensure a shorter visit to the shrine closer to the God and then again satisfy our egos and beliefs that we are indeed blessed to have seen God without strain.

We start calculating on the ROI for each and everything we spend on.Its majorly on the money we spend on our kids or on our parents or our relatives to ensure that we are always surrounded by people, their support and cheers for us without knowing whether what we get is rational or out of blind affection.

We start reacting, exploding at times when the ROI is not up to the expectations or in to a totally different direction.Criticize our children for not making it to the top, criticize our parents for making us travel to get their works done in banks and offices.

All of India wants everything at the tip of their fingers. We shun responsibility and do not think of the second person involved in our daily actions. We can put up with any kind of nonsense, be it pothole ridden roads, streetlights that doesnt work or with orders that doesnt deliver on time or giving our full potential in to the work we do.We try to buy favours everywhere barter it with our favour in return or with our money or supporting them politically or socially.Everything is 'Subject to Terms and Conditions" and this list is the most dynamic one which leaves us without any clue as when we would start doing our work loving it as a responsibility and do it with utmost devotion.

We have constitution, drafted for us , we have been given the power to enact laws and change them for betterment. The constitution is aimed at placing the citizen at the king's throne. Alas the citizen finds way to flout the norms and feel like a King!

Its time again we think of reliveing ourselves from the net we have woven around ourselves, breaking off the shackles and respecting ourselves and earning respect for the country.

    :hello:@sarajara
Your observations might be in few pockets of India .
    2. Indians respected by fellow Indians in non Indian nations.
    3. Indians command less respect compared to other Asians and pals in foreign universities and in workplaces. They live in isolated spots like south all in uk.
    4. In places like Mumbai commuters friendly men extending utility services are friendly
A few may not be interested to collect charge slip or bills. A few is not collecting bills to save taxes. It doesn’t mean the character of India as a whole consists of foolish and corrupt men.
5: every nation has this irritable issues but it does not mean all of their citizens are to be blamed for their economy.
    6. We are proudIndians because of the tireless effort put in by fellow Indians in all walks of life. Our men command respect within and outside India. Our men are second to none.
    Regards.

The discipline and respect for the country begins in actions and not words. The countries where the patriotism is at its peak is where people are very disciplined, focused on finding opportunities to contribute something to the society, putting the country before anything else, pay due taxes systematically, have great respect for the soldiers who guard the borders, etc.

    1) When 9/11 happened, the government made a personal request to the citizens across the country to stop donating blood as they had received excessive donation of blood with no facility to store more blood. That is the commitment Americans showed to save lives of people unknown to them.

    2) When nuclear disaster happened in Japan combined with Tsunami, the Japanese lined up systematically for food and if they received accidentally more than the quantity rationed for each person, gladly shared with others. They also strike by working extra hours without pay to shame the employer.

Pride of country should be demonstrated in action by what each person can do for the country and not by blaming what others are failing to do.

Frankly, there was no other part of the world superior to Indian subcontinent thousands of years ago in terms of spirituality, disciplined life, trade, innovation, education, science, engineering, business, etc. Even though the focus is now on the later items, disciplined life and spiritual thoughts disappeared over a period of time. The country has rich content but mostly used by people from outside the country than those who reside in India. As you rightly said, while advancement in science, engineering, business, education are all important, people need to go back to review the right living principles practiced by the Indians thousands of years ago.

I would agree that we as Indians do not respect the laws. But we respect ourselves very much. On each score- breaking the queue, crossing the red light, not paying taxes, always counting ROI simply indicate how greatly or badly we love and respect ourselves. Above all one who cannot love oneself cannot love others as well. Charity must begin at home.
But then no need to despair. We have company of our neighboring countries and people living there. Not only them, even most countries in the Asian region.
People in Countries elsewhere are also equally self respecting. Whole of African continent, South America, Mexico are filled with self respecting people.
It is only in European region and USA that they do not show is so openly. But then, they respect the laws and think that these laws made by their representatives are for all including the representatives. It starts from the top.
In our dear lovely country self respect and no respect for laws starts from the top. The common people just follow suit.

Thanks for all your opinions friends.. good to see tht a nice discussion is happening. yes we started respecting ourselves more than the laws created to safeguard us and ended up disrespecting ourselves indirectly.
