Are you sure those are mosquitoes, they could be fruit flies too. You could try this and see if it works - dilute dishwashing liquid and spray it in the pots and on the plants. That should take care of it.

I am sure you will get other remedies from other ILs here!

    Hi rama,

The solution seems to be a temporary one..may be for 2-3 days ...Again i got the same..I took the plant out washed the pot clean and checked if any decayed roots..(mine did not had any)..Put some fresh store bought soil but again i got the fruit flies...this time even more.. May be have to try some other store bought products.... I dono when i shall get rid of these tiny ones..

pesky little ones aren't they?? Well I googled the web and I believe a store bought fungicide will work well.

Here is the information for you to read through - they suggest to replace the top layer of soil and to keep a potato slice for a couple of days and then to throw it out. Also keeping the soil dry between watering seems to be the key - moisture and heat a potential combo for eggs to hatch !!! Hope it works. I know these gnats/fruits flies can be such an annoyance.....

"To keep the larvae from hatching place a ½ inch slice of raw potato on the surface of the soil. You will be able to discard the potato along with the larvae after about 2 days. You can repeat this process until the larvae are completely gone. "

    Hey!

Even I faced the same problem at my house ... yes the increase in the number of mosquitoes were due to the plants that we had put in our balcony.

Some of them (really helpful once) are: -

    1. Use citronella candles in areas with limited air movement.
    2. Grow mosquito-repelling plants like basil.
    3. Introduce natural predators like dragonflies.
    4. Eliminate standing water around your home.
    5. Use neem oil as mosquito repellent.
    6. Place camphor tablets around your home.
    7. Use a mosquito fogger for treating large outdoor areas.

    Hi Everyone.

If you have mosquitoes within your home, a handy, cost-effective tip to remove them is to take a small bowl filled with water and add one camphor tablet (10 grams) to it. Place the bowl in a corner of the room to avoid anyone standing in it and you will find the mosquitoes will immediately fly away.

If not you can use Geraniol. It is a type of alcohol used as a fragrance or flavour. It's from plant oils like citronella, lemongrass, and rose. As an ingredient in mosquito repellent, it's known to be effective for two to four hours, depending on the species.

Or else you can simply use mosquito sprays and gels to prevent your self from the mosquito bite.
