:hello: Could It May be Mother Virgin Mary :hello:

It was near the Flora Fountain and Victoria terminus railway station at Mumbai –the financial Capital of India. The city was experiencing torrential rain in the peak monsoon when visibility of the forenoon was greatly diminished. It was also rush hour in this city and in the adjoining magistrate court where hundreds of clients and attorneys in their long black attire were crisscrossing the façade of the court.

With heavy monsoon gear on and carrying office brief on his right, positioning his gliding spectacles between eye brows, he scurried past a red-stone building within the magistrate court complex. Few minutes before, he had managed to obtain the much needed attestation of a Notary on a medical certificate required for seeking extension of stay of his official quarter for few more months.

The morning local news paper - Times of India - carried a four-column headlined report in its front page with images of city goons and graphic account of a notorious gang leader and of his accomplices and the court hearing that was to take place that day of a witness-turned approver in a criminal case of killing involving the gang leader and his accomplices. This has drawn public attention, huge attendance and spectators within the court chambers.

The medium built bespectacled man, carrying an umbrella over his head and clutching a small briefcase was scurrying past a canteen when a police van carrying few policemen and a hand-cuffed witness turned approver was just entering the court complex approaching slowly the facade. The van’s windscreen wiper could hardly sweep the rivulets of rain water off its screen.

Pouring rain caused the traffic to move in snail’s pace with in court precincts. To enable senior court officials to alight comfortably below a large canopied shelter at the main entrance of the court, many large and small cars were queued up bumper to bumper for a while.

The police van carrying the criminal had also to wait for its turn to be positioned near the entrance to facilitate the police personnel to alight with the handcuffed criminal-witness-turned -approver.

As time was nearing to present the criminal-turned approver before the judge, the police personnel unmindful of the traffic jam and pouring rain, decided to alight with the criminal at a little distance away from the main entrance to the court building. They alighted and were rushing toward the entrance.

It was at this juncture, at a little distance the bespectacled man carrying the brief seemed to be confused was wading through knee deep water, when his spectacles slipped off his ears; with poor visibility and poor vision, he was trying to locate it around his feet.
It was the very moment when some masked men from hide outs in upper floor(s) of the court building were aiming at the criminal turned approver, fired bullets from their AK-47 rifle. Clearly it was as per the orders of their gang leader.

In the melee that followed, the man braving the rain lashing on his face though sensed the prevailing chaos around him and had dim view of people running helter-skelter, perplexed and attempted to hobble but could not take a step further and was about to tumble down. Being proximate to the police van, he was at that moment almost in the path of flying bullets. One bullet just grazed past his shoulder and another missed him by a whisker.

Witnessing this, an alert and agile young lady – an attorney’s daughter- dashed to the man and grabbed his wrist and dragged him away to safety into an adjacent make-shift security cubicle. A couple of more bullets ricocheted and were piercing the wooden door of the cubicle yet the man and the rescuer remained unhurt within. While the criminal turned approver succumbed to rain of bullets at the spot itself, the lady full of aplomb could not only locate the man’s spectacles that was precariously hanging from the hip-loop of his rain coat, but escorted him with his brief case to a safe point from where he hailed in an yellow cab to his office at New Marine Lines in Mumbai then Bombay. Of course, before reaching the safe point, he thanked the lady profusely and received her visiting card.

Next day, early morning after a sip of his favorite steaming coffee, the gentleman was glancing through his spectacles the day’s news paper - city edition - of Times of India. In the front page at right, there was a five column headline boxed report about the criminal turned approver with his bullet-ridden body image appearing at the top.

The old man was brooding over his providential escape from sure death and was blinking to clear off the tears that welled up in his eyes. With tears rolling down over his cheeks, he was looking heavenward and perhaps thanking of his stars and ruminating the way that he was saved by the lady in good time.
Seeing him in tears in the thirteenth floor balcony, my wife and my son and daughter were wondering what story in the news had moved me to tears.

I narrated the previous day’s harrowing experience and took out from my briefcase a visiting card of my saviour who came to my succour and showed it to my son and wife.
Their eyes welled up on seeing golden bordered exquisite card containing her name embossed in purple as MARY.

Could she be “TheVirgin Mary?” My Guardian Angel.

:hello:@momsky Thanks from bottom of my heart for the maiden feedback.
    2. This incident narrated above was in the year when I was compelled to proceed on deputation to another department of Government of India.
    3. I remember a pal of mine took me to Saint Michael’s Church of several years old to offer my thanks to MOTHER. I think that prayer on Thursday’s at Mahim was something like this:
Mother Mary, I believe in thee, love thee with all my heart, with all my strength, with all my love. Never was it known that those who sought your aid never left unaided. Inspired by this confidence I fly to thee sorrowful and sinful, before thee I stand. ......this was known as Noveena prayers. Every session lasting for thirty and odd minutes from morning 5 to evening 11 with gap of15 minutes between successive session commanding huge gatherings indoor and outdoors.
    4. Thanks once again for turning me nostalgic.
With best wishesforHAPPY NEW YEAR 2018 that would commence in few hours from now.

    @Thyagarajan

A very interesting plot and narration. Ganapati Bappa and Mother Mary are the most revered in Mumbai and the Mount Mary festival almost always coincides with the Ganesh Chaturthi! It is your faith and belief that comforts you; You could consider her as your Guardian angel, perfectly alright.
