-----not to wash hands with soap after bathroom:drowning(they stair & laugh at you)

-----not to eat good items(they are only for MIL,FIL&MEN in the house)

-----not to frequently comb your own hair

-----not to wash your own hair more than once in a week

-----not to for sooo many imp & hygenic things

Iam a doc by profession I reallyyyy reallyyyy hate those unhygenic habits yaar...

1) never eat any type of greens. apparently they are devil spawn and shorten your lifespan.

9) this one i cringe while i write.my MIL believes nobody should shut the bathroom door while showering or other businesses. can't wrap my head around the reason for this at all. to this date, whenever she visits,she gets offended when i shut the door- she doesn't do it. ever.

Hilarious thread. I can relate to so many of the points mentioned here. I am surprised to see how similar people's habits are. I have a good time reliving those million dollar moments/dialogues or habits of my ILs with my very own hubby once we get back to our home. Of course I censor off some points which I especially reserve for sharing with my mom over phone.hehehe There is no malice intended because I have been fortunate to get very decent in laws.

This has been a fun post to read !
Adding two things that I find interesting in my IL's house
A) Special space in the kitchen for empty whiskey bottles that are eventually filled with drinking water because plastic is bad for health. The number of bottles keep increasing , so I wonder if BPA from plastic would be safer than the amount of alcohol consumed .
B) Bad music playing, mostly English pop ( FIL has terrible taste ) . I heard Britney Spears playing once and nearly fainted .

1) You should prepare all the meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner everyday. Eating out is a taboo word at our ILs no matter how tired or stressed or busy DIL is.
2) As you mentioned, make all the spices at home *eye-rolls*
3) Make coconut chutney, idly and keep it in the freezer and eat it after 2 months. She says its "healty" and better than eating out.
4) You should prepare at least 10 dishes when someone is visiting. No matter even if the person has diabetes and cant eat sweets. You should have 5 sweets prepared and still push the guest to eat them till he eats a bowl full of sweets (I think cursing the hosts in mind )
5) You have to talk only in a certain way. You shouldn't use some slang words or even the words that are considered "Below-class"
6) You should wear sindoor and mangalsutra ALL the time. The sindoor should be big enough for a person standing 50 ft away from you to see.
7) Doing all the houehold chores is completely women's responsibility. Its ok for her son to lay down after a hectic day but not for her DIL.

1. If DIL wants to eat out, she is a shameless person craving for "outside" food. If son wants to eat out, DIL will be asked "Are you also going to eat that?" and then stared upon as if, it is a shame for women to eat out.
2. All stale food, even 1 spoon of rasam will be kept in the fridge for the next day and DIL will be expected to finish all the stale food in the morning breakfast while the rest of the royals will eat fresh food.
3. Come and serve huge helpings of food or fruits with so much love to DIL ONLY if the food is either 3 days old or the fruit is on the verge of being rotten. Basically, DIL's tummy is the dustbin for them.
4. If you use any slang, you are talking like a low class. And then there will be a pause and some comment about how they doubt your parents for the upbringing.
5. Bang the bedroom door or barge in in the morning and loudly yell at son to wake up. If DIL had already woken up, then don't bother to wake up the son. Apparently all the banging and yelling is only for the DIL.
6. Never ask any question to DIL directly, apparently, it is below thier level to speak to the DIL. Even if I am in the room, all questions to me will be asked to my DH or DS. Earlier, I used to reply, now I don't bother. So, the conversation happens like this MIL to DH/DS. DH/DS to me. Me to DH/DS. DH/DS to MIL. While we are all in the same room :O. Now that I have typed this one up, it seems all the more weird.
7. Make DIL slog and feel entitled, whereas if my SIL just visits us, she is doing soooo much for my MIL.
8. SIL is more beautiful, more smart, more loving, more everything than me.
9. Keep kitchen in her control. Never let DIL cook, and keep cribbing about lot of work, and make DIL feel like a nobody in the house, and make son feel bad for her hard work. I actually overheard her coaching her daughter, when her daughter's MIL was visiting them for a few days. "Ask your MIL to cut veggies, etc, but never let her take control of the kitchen. Keep her dependent upon your hand for food, that way she will never be able to grow above you." I was so shocked, only that day I knew this was planned strategy.
10. My SIL's MIL doesn't stay with her, but stays with another son. Once they had a fight and had moved to my SIL's house. My SIL came to our house, stayed for two days and had council of war with MIL. So many strategies were planned to throw the SIL's PILs out of the house. Even advised my SIL to look for a rented house for her PILs on the sly and gently coax her MIL to move there. I was disgusted by all this. I sometimes wonder what I am doing in this house among these people.

This is so true, if my SILs husband is mean to her, my husband should be mean to me. If my husband is nice to me, he is afraid of his wife, and I am supposed to be a dominant monster while her daughter is a poor innocent thing.

in laws can sleep in the afternoon, they can be tired
