    Hello Everyone,

I am a mother of 3 years 3 month old baby.

I am struggling with speaking delay of my daughter.

    Here is the details:

    1. She has clear voice clarity & does does not stammer.
    2. after putting lot of effort from last 6 month, now she repeats everything whatever we talk to her or If I talk to other she will hear & repeat everything.
    3. she has a extremely sharp memory & remember things very fast.
    4. she knows birds, animals sound & their name, alphabets in Hindi & eneglish & can read simple words of Hindi.

Now what is not good & why I am worrying so much:
    1. she is very good in knowledge part but very poor in communication. she does communicate at all.
    2. now she communicates her basic need but not in sentence only in key words like if she needs water, she will say ... water, she needs pencil & will point to pencil & say pencil.
    3. she speaks few sentences but those are taught by me & she remembers so she repeat in that particular scenario. But she cant make sentence of her own.
    4. kids of her age talks to their mother mother clearly. When I go to her school to pick her. I see other kids are talking to their mother but she does not say anything what happens today.
    5. she seems to live in out of this world. she will play, sing & dance & whatever academic knowledge she has required she keep repeating things. but she does not talk meaningful.

    environmental scenario:

    1. I am a working mother. even though I work from home she spends most of her time with nanny. Nanny keep on changing even though I don't want to change. even after paying higher salary of 15K, These nanny does not talk to kid. finally I put on TV as at least she learns something by watching those educational video.

    2. I live in a Govt colony, though its a gated community but i am failed to find any kid of her age with same mother tongue Hindi, so she is not getting any company.

    3. She started going school 4 months back but missed school almost for first 3.5 month. she goes for 1 or 2 day & catch cough & cold. Now from last 10 days going regularly.

    4. Her school is not giving nay clear feedback, money minded people. They simply say send regularly it will improve & I am not happy with this ready made answer.

I am requesting for advice from other moms.
What should I do in home to improve further or is this the time to go for speech therapy or my kid is having any serious mental issue.

I stay near Marathahalli, Bangalore. & I am desperately looking for company of kids of her age with hindi speaking background.

    Regards

    Dear op
I can understand your worry. some kids do take more time to communicate properly. when did she start saying words. was that too late? i have a relative whose toddler is also a late talker. now that girl is 2 and a half years old but just started telling some words. as you said of she wants water she will point and say water. they are always worried about her. that is girl is very intelligent too. what i am trying to say is do try talking to her always. you dont loose hope. always always talk. she is just late that is all. did you talk to her doctor regarding this? if not do it just to get proffessional assistance regarding this.
If she get a gud friend in school then also there will a lot change.

    Hi,

I just posted this for another thread of same situation and I saw your post and thought it may helpful for you too!!

I have sailed in your boats six months back and I hope my points helps you in general to analyse your kids needs!
Please ask me any specific questions and would be more happy to answer if I know!

My son was 3.5 then and we always felt his speech was not upto the mark of kids his age. So we met child psychologist and his new nursery teacher also had some concerns about his speech. So many things back and forth, and I slowly realised the things I had missed to notice when it all started(I had my 2nd baby when he was 2 so I'm not sure if I missed it somewhere then)

So a few actual points to ponder,
    1. How is the kid's eye contact - No matter if there is speech delay or not, is your kid communicating with you thru his eyes. Make a note of this.
    2. How is his response when his name is called out - Is it the first time he turns n looks or you need to keep calling him over n over again. Imagine you call him from other room, does he run to you?
    3. Does he point and communicate thru actions if he wants something all d time? Mainly does he have a YES/NO answer thru head or hand shake.
    4. When new guests come, how responsive he is of the environment around him.
    5. When you give him instructions like take red bottle from table, keep the plate in the sink, give the paper to father, does the kid follow them?

If your answers are in negative or not too positive for above questions, pls pls dont delay and run to a specialist now!

    Hi Vasuma,

Can you let me know if you have checked into the 5pointers I have mentioned as questions in my post...if he is able to point and ask what he wants without crying too much...if he s able to follow instructions from other rooms...like running to you from hall when you are in kitchen...picking up from something from bedroom based on your command...I think there shouldnt be a problem..once he goes to nursery please wait only for a month and check with his nursery teacher on his response in class..if ever there is a red flag raised...please check with a specialist immediately..
