That's exactly my concern too. But my husband feels its better for her till she gets used to everything here. He feels seeing Indian faces at school might make her willing to go to school. Then maybe we can shift to another school after a few months.

Thanks for all your suggestions. They really help.

@Nithya58 - Hi...the metra station is a few minutes drive from here. I dont think its walkable from either here or IVL. My hysband used Uber cab service to commute to and from the metra till we got the car.

Hey Nithya! We will be moving from Hyderabad to Chicago in August. Please give your opinios on areas to look out for with good schools, nearness to metra for commuting to downtown. Please share which school and appts you have decided for yourself. My kids will be going to 2nd and 5th classes. Thanks in advance.

There are plenty of suburbs with good schools and with a metra station. Unlike Hyd, there are several metra lines:) Depending on how far your apartment is from the metra station, you might walk, bike or drive to the station.

How long of a commute is your husband looking at?

The shortest commute (20 minutes) to Chicago downtown with good schools and many metra stations is Evanston. If you want a predominant Indian presence and do not mind a longer commute, you can look at apartments in Arlington Heights, Mount Prospect and Buffalo Grove.

Welcome. Now that the weather is nice, I encourage you to go out of the apartment. Living where you live, you should run into plenty Indians.
