    Hi Shruti,
    Thanks for the appreciation.
I think there is a change from the yester years. Today the most parents are happy with any child-male or female. Only earlier generation relatives and few in our generation do behave this way...

As a teenager, I used to fight with such people..Now I realize that there is no use speaking to them. They are not going to change. So I just ignore them and carry on.

    Hi,

Nice post!!! it is very sad to know that even today, people tend to believe such things. While i respect the practices that our elders have brought and believe that there is something for the elders to do such a thing at that time. But, we should be matured enough now and act according to the times now.

Dont know when people can change.

Girl = worry , for parents of girls it is a constant worry about every little thing, from education to marriage to child birth to health, boys parents on the other hand are easy going.
Society will never change "kandan ka nam" is still a big thing and will always be. I have two boys and would have loved to have girls anyday.

    Hi Banu,
    Thanks for the appreciative feedback.
I completely agree with you...The practices that our elders have brought does carry a meaning. I believe that this ritual(banana giving) is to get the wishes from a child. Since a child is considered equivalent of God their wishes will go a long way in ensuring safe delivery.

I think the idea of giving it to a boy came in the middle generations when they tried to act too smart. And these days, our generation is not giving much importance to whether it is a boy or girl...

    Thanks for coming in.
I would have the equation this way
Girl=Bundle of joy..Education is the based on the calibre of the child not gender..

This made me think a lot Suhaguru, and yes, it happens even now. If it were on a financial note, nowadays its irrelevant, as we end up spending more or even higher for a boy [education / bike / expensive gifts]. If it were on an who is going to be there forever / for a longer time too, today, it is largely irrelevant, as we are heading more towards nuclear families. Your summing up was too good and very true. Gender bias is something that needs to be extinct sooner. -rgs

Thanks for your appreciative feedback RGS.

Your observation is perfect. And even more, girls are attached to the parents more than boys. Why people are not accepting something which is favourable to them is still a question.
