    Visumbin thuliveezhin allalmaR Range
    pasumpul thalaikaanbu arithu.

Unless raindrops fall from the sky,
not a blade of green grass will rise from the earth.

    Nedunkadalum thanneermai KunRum thadinthezhili
    thaannalga thaki vidin.

The very nature of oceans, though vast, would diminish if clouds ceased to take up water and replenish rain's gifts.

    Chirappodu poosanai selladhu vaanam
    vaRakkumel vaanorkkum eendu.

Should the heavens dry up, worship here of the heavenly ones in festivals and daily rites would wither.

Thanam thavam erandum thanga viyan ulakam
    vaanam vazhanga thenin.

Unless the heavens grant their gifts, neither the giver's generosity nor the ascetic's detachment will grace this wide world.

    Neerinru amaiyadhu ulakenin yaaryaarkkum
    vaaninru amaiadhu ozhukku.

No life on earth can exist without water, that being so, the conduct men depend ultimately on rain.

    I silently bow down !!

    Dearest Srini and Usha mesdames,

The link to the pouring act of nature was really apt here !! I appreciate the interest that you show in inculcating the Goodness about Nature !!

Thank you very much for the awareness you both create among youngsters like me. It would definitely flow in our genes to come !! I mean what I have penned here. I was left with Goose bumps as soon as i read a few Kurals. I regret for not having taken Tamil as my second language for the very first time !! Thank you both :) I have nothing to miss amidst "generous people" like you !!!

    May god bless !!

    Regards with Love

    Hi,
This 18 one I guess if it is like this it will be meaningful
"Should the heavens dry up, worship here of the heavenly ones in festivals and daily rites would be of no use (or to what purpose?).

I didnt understand this portion conduct men (or existence of men?)
No life on earth can exist without water, that being so, the conduct men depend ultimately on rain.

    Durgapriye,
Thanks for coming in and pouring your thoughts in here.

    18. As for the daily rites would wither, it means those rites would slowly disappear in the near future.

As for 20th kural, Thiruvalluvar says, even the conduct of people depends on rain. For eg. if there is famine in a country, the poverty and suffering they go through, make them undertake vices such as cheating, robbing, etc..for their mere survival, which is not seen in them before when that country flourished.

I explained the above facts to my knowledge, hoping it is justified :).
