    Hi all

    Purchased a new book shelf and a wardrobe made possibly of artificial wood [believe they also call it compressed wood]. Felt the strong smell at the show room itself but then thought it would settle down. Even after two days the smell persists. Any idea to get rid of the strange unpleasant smell will be appreciated.

    Waiting for some suggestions :help

    Hi

    have you tried wardrobe fresheners? You can hang them inside wardrobes to help give nice smell so maybe worth a try. Otherwise try oil diffusers with scented oils or put some strong fragrance enhancers like sandalwood pot pouri in small bowl and leave inside for some time.

    place a bowl of baking soda in the wardrobe, for 3-4 days.

    Compressed wood is not artificial. It is created by compressing wood shavings and waste wood pieces. It is pretty durable as long as it is kept away from moisture. Frequent shifting could also weaken the structure. Pot pourri is a good idea to have a fresh smelling wardrobe.

    @smilealwayss
    Bought a wooden wardrobe (with plain shelves) last month,The purpose to store my baking pans/raw materials esp cooking chocolate but just couldn't bear the thinner/varnish smell.
    So dipped a big ball of cotton in baby eau de cologne,wiped every nook and corner inside and outside.(actually a mini baby wash :biggrin2:)
    Kept doors open for a whole day.Tadaaa.....Its gone.

    @Shanvy
    Thats great idea.

    Thanks.

    Tips to get rid of wooden smell from closet:
    1.) Dehumidify: Wood is porous and therefore will take in moisture, air, and smells of its surroundings. If your piece of furniture has been housed in an old house, attic, basement or garage most likely it has taken in a musty order from one of these. Use good quality of dehumidifier to get rid of wood smell from closet.

    2.) Wood Soap: Often times the culprit of musty smelling wood is germs and bacteria inside the wood. This is especially true if wood was left in a moisture rich environment for an extended amount of time. Use a wood soap product that is meant for cleaning and killing bacteria inside wood.
