    Dear Indusladies,
Good day to all of you. My son is 2 year 3 months old. My son has continuous attack of Bronchitis from last year. I will be very thankful for your great suggestions and remedies.

Here is the short history of my Son.

    First Year:
During first year, my son was very healthy and didn't had any sick. Even, When he got vaccination, he had fever just for a day. The very next day he use to be very normal.
We had gone to India at the end of first year (i.e Nov and Dec 2013). In India, the very first time he had fever. We had been to child specialist many times. As long as he takes paracetamol tablets, he was ok. When we stop
medicines, fever came back. When he was sick, he resisted to eat/drink anything apart from Mother milk. (max he ate 1/2 idli with milk/day). It was quite irritating for me.
We came back to Germany in Jan'2014. I have noticed that he is losing weight. Our pediatrician said that we just wait for another 6 weeks. But, my son was losing his weight continuously.
So, we were suggested to check his iron/ hemoglobin value. His HB was 5.8, which was very low. Immediately he got admitted in hospital for next 4 weeks and got heavy dose Iron drops and then my son started to gain weight. Then, he was very normal.

    Second Year:
He started to go to Kinder garden and I started my Job. During, Easter holidays we had been to hill station, he had cough and cold (no fever). So I thought its normal cold and gave him cough syrup. But, day by day it has increased and he was not able to breath from 4th day (Wheezing and coughing) . As his pulse went down below normal level, he got admitted for one week in hospital and treated with Inhalation (salbutamol - 3 drops + Atrovent 6 drops + Nacl (0.9%) 2ml) 6 to 8 times a day. We continued this treatment at home for 15 days.
Since last year April, my son got admitted in hospital 5 times for the same issue. Whenever he get cold or cough, immediately affects his Lungs, within next four to six hours he is not able to breath.

    Third Year:
Last time he got admitted for the same issue in Jan 2015, Our Child specialist said that he has pneumonia (Lungenentzündung); But not severe. So they increased the dosage of Inhalation ( (salbutamol - 6drops + Atrovent 12 drops + Nacl (0.9%) 2ml) and Morning and Evening Inhalation with 1 ml pulmicort (1mg/2ml) +Nacl (0.9%) 1 ml
Again in Feburay 2015 he had Fever for two days from Third day he got severe bronchitis. Whether he is sick or not, I always use home remedies, such as Milk+ Turmeric Powder+ Pepper powder. But No success.
As long as, he stays at home no problem. When he starts to go to Kinder garden, he gets affected with Bronchitis. My colleagues said that Sea breeze is good for bronchitis. I am going to try this treatment next month in India.
This is the third attack in 2015. If he is sick, he resists to eat anything atleast for next 4 days. I am really afraid that again he will get iron deficiency anemia.

    Now coming to the point,
    1) Does anyone come across this kind of issue? If so, what are the home remedies do you use?
    2) Are there any other alternative medicines for cold (Wheezing and Coughing) issue?
    3) In April, We are planning to go to India, If any one knows good Ayurveda or siddha treatment centers in Kerala and Tamilnadu, please let me know.
    4) As my child is a picky eater, I tried almost all methods (rough and soft) to feed him. (in front of TV , sitting near window to divert his mind, tried different taste). He eats two to three spoons.
How do you girls manage to feed your children?

I am very much worried and stressed a lot, because of this issue. I hope you Ladies unterstand me.

    -Selvi

Selvi I am very sorry youre going through this. I personally don't have any experience but I know my dad had asthama attacks and terrible cough and cold few year back. He tried everything and nothing worked. Then he was asked to avoid citrus fruits and veggies likes tomato, lemon, tamarind etc and then he started to see improvement.. now he is completely out of it except during severe winters he gets mild cough but other than that he is completely normal now.

Have you tried to avoid some food? Do check with your doctor about it too.

    Hi,

My son is also of the same age as your son. Don't worry. He will be alright.

My son as well doesn't eat anything properly as his grandparents have made him addicted to snacks. if i cut all snacks he eats properly.

In our place generally for children's digestion and resistance, we give oramarunnu. it comprises vasambu(digestion and cold), paal kayam(digestion, gas, stops loose motion), pepper, turmeric, adimadhuram etc. it has lots other items as well. i buy this from an ayurvedic shop and sctract it all a few times in a stone and mix it with water and him after he takes head bath.

But for your son, i think ths treatment is not enough. Why cant you go for an ayurvedic medicine? Definitely he will get better cure.

Whenever i or my son gets cold, i use only honey(pure). i have seen wonders. i also mix navarapachilla extract in honey. its called as karpooravalli in tamil.

i heard from my doc that Gooseberry if taken regularly will reduce cold attacks as immunity wil improve. My mother used to soak fresh gooseberry in honey and leave it for two weeks. then you can consume that honey, it definitely reduces cold. Even in normal days also we can consume this honey. it will have a sour gooseberry taste

    @thaamaraiselvi

I am prone to wheeze and so is my son. my son was nebulized as young as 10-15 days.

What i would suggest maintain a diary. something is triggering your son's wheeze. the cough and cold are a indicator and never wait or just try home remedies when your child is prone to attacks.

you can help him by following your doctor's medical suggestion. sometimes, they ask you to use these medicines for a month or two even if there is no wheeze, so please do not stop when you see him free from wheeze.

does your child eat food at the kindergarden?? maybe there is a trigger. some children react to gluten and are prone to wheeze. maybe when you send him to kg you send wheat products like bread/muffin/buns or he eats the same.

What you can do help him..

sea breeze may help. but if the trigger was something else then sea breeze is not going to help..so food diary. note when he is prone to cough. does he have indigestions.
preservatives, excessive sugar, cheese are some triggers in my son's case.

Practice breathing exercise with him. see and learn pranayamam and better if you can give him a coaching for the same if you are not sure how to do it in the right way.

Also remember eating is very difficult when you have wheeze. so never give or expect him to eat the whole thing. split the meals. give warm water to drink.

keep his pillows/bedsheets/bed dust free. and if you have a carpet ensure it is clean.

also talk to his kg teachers to help you check and identify the trigger.

as your son grows up, the frequency may reduce depending on the trigger.

so hugs, and loads of health vibes to your son..

    Dear Chithra,
Thank you very much for your reply. At home, we don't give him any kind of citrus fruit. I think in KG, they offer mostly fresh veggies and fruits like cucumber, tomatoes, carrot and oranges etc. I will discuss it with KG Management.

    Dear Abinaya,
I do use home remedies such as karpooravalli leaves water, Jeera, corriander and Anis seeds water. But this medication is not sufficient, when my son gets severe cold. I have also tried thoothuvalai powder, he is not drinking it because of bitter taste.
As I have seen that muscus gets accumulated in his lungs. Even he coughs, muscus doesn't come out. When he inhales (Alopathy medication), his lungs gets free for next 3 to 4 hours. Again, he has the same breathing trouble. He is taking this medication for last one year. But no improvement....
We have discussed with many doctors. At last, he got Puff (Viani mite). He should inhale this morning and evening for next six months. I am not at all satisfied with this treatment.
So I feel that my son needs such a treatment that his lungs should get free from muscus. Then, he will be alright.
As we don't get adimadhuram, vasambu, paal kayam, Goose berries etc in Germany, I can try these things in India. Definitely I will bring these things , when I come back.
When it comes to food habits. My son don't like to eat even Snacks. Sometimes, he eats typical western food like pasta, tortillani, champignons, Potatoes with any kind of white sauce.... He never ever likes to eat Indian food... That is the next biggest problem. But I hope that in India, when he sees other kids, he may eat Indian food.
I would like to try Ayurveda or Siddha treatment during our holidays. So If anybody know such treatment centers in Kerala or Tamilnadu. Please please do let me know...
We are ready to stay and take treatment for complete one month. If it is needed more than that...

    Dear shanvy,
Thanks for sharing your experience. I have noticed that muscus gets accumulated in his lungs. Even he has severe cough/Cold, muscus doesn't come out. (Imagine, I never used a tissue to wipe off) When he inhales, his lungs gets free just for next 3 to 4 hours. Again, he has the same breathing trouble. We stop nebulizer, only after getting doctors confirmation.
But no improvement.... Again he gets next attack in 3 to 4 weeks. Next time, they increase the dosage. Now he inhales Nacl 2ml + Atrovert 12 drops + Salbutomal 6 drops and Pulmicort twice a day.
We have discussed with many doctors. At last, he got Puff (Viani mite). He should inhale this morning and evening for next six months. Though we are not satisfied with this treatment, we do use twice a day.

Yes. My son gets breakfast, lunch and snacks everything at KG. He eats only dinner at home. As we are not allowed to give any food from home, he got addicted to western food :-( They provide lots of fresh vegetables and fruits for breakfast and snacks. Afternoon, he get typical Italian / German / french food.

I found your tips are very very helpful. I am going to maintain a food dairy for KG and at home. As my son likes to eat only western food, obviously it has preservatives and Cheese products, it could be the triggering agent for my son's wheezing problem too.
I never thought of doing allergy test. We will do allergy test in coming days.
Last three days he had continuous 40 deg fever. Yesterday, it got reduced little bit. I am very much afraid that again he gets Pneumonia (Lungenentzündung).

We have removed all the carpets at home. Now we stopped sending him to KG for next two months.
At last I have few questions. Sorry for asking you too many questions.
How is your child now? How often he gets Wheezing?
Is it normal to get fever before cold (Wheezing) attack?; If so, how many days?
Is there any specific test for Gluten allergy?
Did you try Siddha and Ayurvedic treatment?
Thank you so much in advance.

Hello Selvi,I can very well understand what all u have gone through. My children were born preterm and I got through all these experiences u mentioned till they turned 8yrs.
After I started Homeopathy it is completely different now.I have visited a trust by name world teachers trust where they give Homeo medicines. It was established by Master E.K.They gave treatment for 1 yr and all the frequent fevers, cold, dry cough and wheezing completely gone.
I believe they have centres all over the world.I suggest they will help you for sure.Browse on the net for their address in your location.
Treatment is free and service oriented people give medicines.
I wish your child will get well soon.

OP - have you tried ginger-honey concoction. Take a mix of fresh ginger juice (few drops) and honey - say total one teaspoon and let him drink it, without adding water. Give it twice a day. And do not give him anything to eat or drink immediately, say just for ten minutes. This will treat his throat+chest congestion as well improve his appetite.

you can check further on Jiva Ayurveda.

    Hi,
I read your post and really wanted to share my experience. When I was a child I too had issues similar to your son. This was some 25 years ago. I was diagnosed with a condition called, Allergic Bronchitis. Mostly dust triggered my attacks .My mom still tells me about what a sick child I used to be. I suffered through numerous cough cold and fever issues. Finally by the age of 11-12 I was cured of the illness. My parents tried various types of remedies, which I will try to list from memory.Maybe some of those may be useful to you.
    >Steam inhalation (plain/with vicks vaporub/eucalyptus oil)
This will help ease the discomfort.
    >I was given Asthalin inhaler(Salbutamol) for any breathlessness or asthma like sypmtoms
It was definitely useful for me.
    >Homeopathy
I am not sure about how much this helped but it certainly will do no harm to try when you are not finding other solutions. You might even find homeopathic doctors in Germany. Your child will willingly take the sweet homeopathic pills too.
    >Diet wise my mom used to give me semisolid to liquids .
Khichdi, pongal, soups, rice or ragi kanji or dal water, overcooked mashed rice and veggies mixed with rasam. All these helped.
There is a roasted sprouted multigrains powder ( brand manna I think) which is extremely nutritious. You cook it with water or milk. You can try that to make sure he gets all the nutrition.

Definitely ask the doctor about allergies testing.
I hope your son feels better soon.
    Best wishes.
