    hi madhu,

    I found it difficult to stitch with heavy embroidery work at the edges of the cloth( say hand and neck). so after finishing my embroidery on the cloth for stitching i used zipper foot instead of normal zig zag foot in my sewing machine. I dont know how professional embroiders do it...its just my way of stitching. there are so many videos available in youtube on how to use zipper foot. however it totally depends on the sewing machine you use. here is a reference image of a zipper foot.

    thank you nirmalsivagami ... it sure is a very good idea ... i once had to leave a bit extra so i cud stitch ... by doing so the shape of the neck got altered ... :bang ... wl remember this next time ... thanks again :)
