HI Yes I also add methi seeds and one cup boiled rice quarter cup raw rice, quarter cup urad dal. and I used to grind the rice coarsely not fine batter but urad as usual. For this type of Idli, Onion sambar with chutney is nice combination. Just try it. Chitra Subramanian
Yes I have tried with the ready mixes, but I think it also contains urad dal. I am looking for some recipes without urad dal and also some tips to improve my process of making idli.
Hi.Here is a simple traditional idli recipe without urad dal.Hope you like it. Cucumber Idli Ingredients- Grated cucumber 1 cup Grated coconut 1/4 cup Idli rava 1 cup Salt to taste Method- Mix all of the above.Let it rest for 15-20 minutes.Do not add water.Cucumber releases its own water.Make idlis as usual.If you want you can add green chillies and coriander in this.These idlis can be made sweet too by adding 1/4 cup grated jaggery instead.These idlis were traditionally made in banana leaves but now we can make it in our regular idli moulds.
I use 1:3 for regular white rice and for brown rice. I replace 2 cups rice with jowar in case of jowar idlis. So jowar: rice: urad is 2:1:1.
Hi, Take 3 cups of rice, one cup of urid dal and a handful of poha. Each one should be soaked separately. Once the rice is ground to 75% add soaked poha and continue grinding. Urid dal has to be ground separately. Add cold water while grinding. You will get really soft idlisyumsmiley
