Visiting India, is BCG vaccination required for baby?

    Hello,
    My friend is visiting India for the first time with her 2 year old toddler and stay there for couple of months. The baby is current on all vaccinations except BCG. Is it necessary to give the baby BCG too as soon as they land there? Some people are advising for it, as TB is quite prevalent in India and some are saying, it is not required as the baby is grown up. She is quite confused. Also, what will be the side effects, if she decides to go for the vaccination? Thanks so much!

    BCG is given immediately after birth of child in India.Better consult good pediatrician in your friend locality in India,they will guide her in better way.As far as side effects for a new born fever is common nothing much to worry.
