I remember a story of a hearing and speech impaired woman which I read when I was in standard 4 or 5. One day when her baby was sleeping in the cradle she took a big stone and approached near the cradle. Her mother who was standing at a little distance watched her with horror. The woman dropped the stone on the floor and it landed with a bang. The baby got frightened and woke up kicking its legs and started crying. The woman was relieved to see this and there was a smile adorning her lips. She felt glad that her baby was not like her and it can hear and so it can also speak.

I think you have a very receptive heart too to note and describe a mother's agony at the thought of her little baby going through some pain.
