Asha , I follow the same process as mentioned by Sumalynux.. Rice: Dhal = 4:1 Dhal grind it for 50 mts and rice for 35 mts. If you are using mixie try this.Soak dhal and keep it in fridge for sometime. This is tried by my friend and she said it does not heat up the mixie so easily. I use idli rice from Lulu and the whole dhal.I think you get grinders in FFC.
Thanks bhuvana...will try 2:1 ratio and use ice cold water and keep dhal in fridge...will check out in FFC for grinder.
I do not think you need to grind for so long...as soon as the batter gets soft its enuf. Or the motor will get hot soon
Try the Homeline brand of whole urad. Works for us. We do not use ice water n it still works. Except that we use 3:1 rice n urad
Hi Asha, I use 6 cups idli rice to 13/4 cups Udhal ( bought from india - since here the brand home line and lulu i tried weren't good and i didn't have patience to check other options ) Grind rice for 25 mints and Udhal for 45 Mints - add some water while adding the Udhal and it will be more fluffy.Mix both . Some times i add a spoon of methi - if the quantity i grind is more than 6 glasses - its works also .
Hi Asha ... Let me share my version too.... for Idlys :- idly rice : urad dhal is 4:1 , + 1 tsp fenugreek seeds., with the usual soaking and grinding ,while grinding I add 1 table spoon of cooked rice along with the dhal ., followed by rice , salt and sufficient water. I keep it overnite in a preheated oven for 10-12 hrs. And I use the traditional idly steamer with cloth and not the pressure cooker moulds. This gives me gud fluffy idlys. dosa :- 5:1 ratio and my friend suggests to add 1 tablespoon of channa dhal / kadalaparuppu ... While soaking rice n dhal ., for crispy dosai .
