My 5-year old daughter and I recently just discovered Roddy Doyle's books, and we love his style of writing. So far, we have only read "Rover Saves Christmas" and "The Giggler's Treatment". Will be looking out for more of his books, for sure!

@ssnlow - Roald Dahl's the best- I have so many happy memories of reading that book as a child.

Have you read his BFG? It's enormous fun...one of the best kiddie books ever written.

    Dear msid,

Did you like Casual Vacancy? I read but didn't like it much. So, is Palace of Illusions......some ideas are thought provoking though.

Not sure about children books, but Roald Dahl's horror stories were very nice and a good read for me during my school days.. I enjoyed them a lot!

Me too. I still have a collection of most of his books in my library. Haven't found time to visit them in ages though.

J.K.Rowling is a very talented author, I don't know why this book was panned by the critics and some readers.

I absolutely loved this book, beautifully told story - it made me cry.
