extra virgin olive oil for indian cooking?

    even I use extra virgin olive oil for cooking ANY type of food cauz its healthy and is not saturated.

    also after frying I dont use the same oil as it is very harmful for us.
    so I use very limited oil for frying.

    Hi,
    I am using extra virgin olive oil and canola for cooking. Earlier i was using coconut oil exclusively.
    I read somewhere that olive oil is not good for cooking, is it true? is it ok to use olive oil for frying mustard?

    I do use olive oil for frying mustard. No harm in it .But I also use coconut oil ,mustard oil , corn oil....every thing in moderate .I never deep fry ,only shallow frying in flat nonstick .and try to fry first and then do other cooking .I do use fried oil If needed ,For mustard frying.

    I have been using EV Olive oil for quite sometime now... I have heard both good n bad about it... Some say tht it should not be used for deep frying...

    Extra virgin olive oil's good properties becomes useless if heated.Once it reaches the smoking point, then all the benefits disappear.So better try to consume extra virgin without heating.

    If you are particular about using olive oil to your cooking, then you can use extra light olive oil.It can withstand the smoking point.

    One thing is for sure, no oil is going to be good when reheated.Better dispose the remaining oil when you deep fry something.This habit will automatically help you to avoid deep frying foods(to save oil he he)

    I have been using extra light olive oil for quite sometime now. I have used it for sauteing, making chapathis, dosas, for sambhar n curries. Recently I have bought Extra virgin olive oil. I tried toasting bread and also used it for dosa. It tasted good. I read that EVOO better suits salads, steamed vegetables and on grilled foods. I'm gonna try making grilled fish this week end. Will post later.

    Yes you can use olive oil for cooking except those traditional dishes which demands the use of a particular oil only. e.g. gingely / coconut / mustard oils.

    hina321. I use olive oil for making pulao, tossing, tempering for dry subzis and gravies. It does not give any different flavour for food. You can use it.

    I have been using EVOO for all normal cooking for almost 12 years and for deep frying canola. Initially the flavor wasn't that pleasant but eventually we got used to it. I even brush chappatis with EVOO and they remain soft for a long time.

    I only use Ghee in Indian cooking everything else I use olive oil.
