I know, Dinny. I am guilty of that:( But a mom did what she thought was best yesterday. I am going to keep giving him that kaadha and today turmeric mixed in breastmilk.

Tulip! It must be the allergy. It can be any allergy..Even MY DS suffered from cold last year during the same time when summer was in full swing.
It can be AC allergy too. If your AC doesnt have humidifier attached, its bound to lead to allergies for the young kids.
Is there any construction work going on nearby your home or his day care?

There is no need to see an allergy specialist, take him to your paed; my paed gave him an anti-allergen, which he had to take for a month and then he was fine.
Donot switch on the AC even to cool the room if you donot have humidifier.

Keep him protected from the direct fan,may be you could use a tower fan which faces away from him, check if he has any dairy allergy, keep track of introducing the possible allergy causing food at a time say one week

    Most popular allergy causing foods
    Cow milk
    Wheat
    Soy
    Egg
    Nuts almonds,tree nuts

    Peanuts

If you are bfing the baby please track your diet too

The possible symptoms of milk allergy could be congestion sinusitis. running nose ,postnatal drip which causes the cough, colicky pain in abdomen

Hydrate the baby with lots of fluids so that the mucus production is loose and not stuck in his airways, use a humidifier.

Saline nasal drops ,here we buy neilmeds, help to moisten the nasal passages

Some allergies do not show up in the blood work and skin tests,in those cases tracking his diet helps

Dear Tuliplady ,You may use the sinus rinse by Dr.Neil ,or similar thing,or you can learn the Neti to clean the nasal passages for your dry cough

TL I coud be completely wrong but I feel that there is too much happening here. I mean, you are giving three different medications at the same time...check out if its safe. I understand its all natural, but still, you dont want to overdose him.

Rakhii: The mustard oil + garlic is an external application and that too only a few drops. The kaadha is not a glass ful, only a spoonful. SO not really overdosing. Ginger honey I contemplated but did not go through the honey route again.

Dairy allergy: I only give him yogurt. No cheese, or cows milk yet. I do not think it is dairy, since yogurt he is having since he turned 7 months.

Now wheat could be completely possible. I stopped maintaining food dairy after he was full fledged on solids:( So I am unable to pinpoint. Also, I never thought that food intolerance will exhbit itself as a cold, I only monitored his poop, rashes etc. But now that I think of it, all this has started a month and a half ago, coinciding with the time that I started him on whole wheat roti. He eats roti almost everyday, so thats one thing that I will be keeping a track off. Will hold off wheat for this whole week and see if something improves.

OK, DS wakes up..will write more later.

So we took him to another padeatrician today. She confirmed that it is allergy, mediated by a viral infection of the upper respiratory tract. She said that there is nothing that we can do, and the infection will fade away on its own. But for his wheezing, she prescribed him some salbutamol drops, and for cold she asked to continue with saline drops. If condition does not improve by Saturday, she suggested we could go for saline nebulization.

I am wondering how can we prevent this viral infection? I am unable to put my finger to a trigger. The weather change is certainly a culprit, but other than that, how can we prevent this?

Tulip! Unfortunatley, there is no way u can prevent it, other than finding out the root cause of allergy and eliminating it which is highly impossible. I have dust allergy and hence my DS has it too.
If you/your husband are allergic, then definitley your DS can be allergic too. One good news is that by the time they cross 1, they over come this.
This year I can switch on AC and touch wood my DS is fine and he has just over come it. The paed said "Dont worry next year same time, he will be a big boy and will not have such frequent allergies! and its soo tru.
Even we had to take him for nebulization.. it was a night mare on day1. Hope your DS gets better soon and doesnt have to undergo nebulisation.

Even he was prescribed salbutamol and when that dint help him he was given an anti-allergic tablets for a month which i had to powder and feed it along with soup/water.
