    Hi all,

I just joined IL. I used to read the posts but never was a member. Me and my DH have been trying to conceive for 3 years with no success so far.I used to be pretty regular on my periods before marriage and moving to US. Once i came here everything got messed up. I went to a reproductive endocronologist after seeing the OBGYN here in the US and they said that i have PCOS. We started on clomid for 2 cycles and noticed that i was developing lots of cysts and i was taking rest for almost 2 cycles between every treatment. I didnt conceive , then we tried IUI for 2 cycles with no success either. Then my dr put me under Injectables which we tried just for 1 cycle and i felt it was too stressful and we decided to take a break.I was doing my Masters then and it was too much for me to handle. Once i graduated , we thought we should probably try ayurvedic medicine instead of so many injectables. So we went to Hollistic practitioner whom we are currently seeing for about an year. She was very confident intially and assured me that i will be pregant in 3 months and i am still not .she gave me strict diet restrictions and exercise. I have been folllowing most of it till today. But as days progress, i feel we are spending money(she doesnt take any insurance so every visit is around $300 and sometimes i see her 10 times in a month , paying every penny out of pocket) So now me and my husband are thinking to come back to my older treatment methodology. Me are My husband are pretty young, I am 27 and he is 30. So i was wondering what would you all suggest? Hang on with Ayurvedic treatment or get back to IUI/Injectables or IVF..
I am totally confused, devastated and upset with my whole life now

    Dear Akshara,
I was in your position sometime back I didn't know what to do, how to proceed? My opinion would be please consult a good Reproductive Endocrinologist they will help you better you can try the holistic method by side like acupuncture. All this treatment are very stressful try to be active and keep yourself stress free. I see you live in SFO so you can try near by places other than SFO as well.

In my case my insurance didn't cover my IUI atleast I was satisfied with the effort my doctor made. They will never forget to return my calls and answer my questions the same day. I think the other methods (Siddha, ayurvedic, homeopathy, unani) all have a path and have been followed for many many years in India so it might work there. Since you are young don't worry and waste any further time consult a good RN. All the very best dear and wish loads of baby dust to you..

OP- Sorry for all the trouble you are going through, I really wish you come out happy with a healthy baby.
Fertilty treatments can be very frustrating emotionally and financially and need a lot of patience. You guys still have age on your side so no worries there. When going through IUI, IVF, ICSI its absolutely imp that you get complete rest.
And also Ayurvedic medicines don't seem to work for all, and some brands are more effective than others. And do not mix Ayurvedic and the ivf treatments.

There are some really good fertilty centers in SFO like Center for reproductive health, pacific fertility center. Having a good RE is really important. And I hope things on your partners front have also been checked.

P.S : do go through the PCOS success stories thread for some inspiration and pointers.

    Dear Akshara,

I had the same problem of you, I had been on various medicines and injections for many years still i am not conceived.

My husband had absoutely normal sperm count. he is ok with his parameters, even then he was also in medication along with me for quite some time.

Then we have decided to go for IVF, we have consulted a IVF specialist, she has assesmed me throughly with various blood test, scan test atlast she told me that my follicular size is just 6mm on cd 11, which is not sufficient for conception. She had put me on Gonal F injections for few days and gave me a medicine called APCOD sachet. She asked me to continue three months, In the second month review doctor got suprised and told me that the follicle size improved to 12mm on CD11, I am now Ok for IVF procedure. But she said continue this medicine APCOD for one more Month and come for IVF procedure on March 13
Now I am Hope full that i will be pregnant in coming months

    Dear Akshara,
In my opinion try to make your periods regular first...You both are young...I was also sailing in the same boat 1 year before. After coming to US my periods got irregular. There was a time I had no periods for 6months!..Then I consulted gynaecologist. She found I have PCOS(high DHEAS and male hormone)..She recommended me to a good reproductive endocrinologyst...I started with low dosage of metformin, exercise(I did walking daily for 30mins) and diet(avoided most of the carbohydrates and sweets)..He increased Metformin dosage after 6months.Tried for 1.5years..Got my periods in track and next month I got pregnant:)

Like others said find a good RE,pinpoint basic reason for PCOS,get good treatment,Control your diet and exercise, reduce stress.Everyone is different. Some takes much longer time.Good Luck!

    Hi Akshara,
I had fertility issues as well (PCOS). Clomid did not work for me. I saw Dr Wachs at RSC, San Jose and in parallel, went for acupuncture sessions with Dr Shyu at Nurture acupuncture. I belv they have a center in SF as well. Dr Shyu is really good. Good luck.
