don't know if this falls under gazal... Aisa koi zindagi se vaada toh nahi tha...tere bina jina ka irada toh nahi tha
Jag as promised this translation attempt it for you..though i personally believe no translation can do justice to poetry, especially ghazals... Hazaaron khwahishen aisi ke har khwahish pe dam nikle (Thousands of desires, each desire is worth dying for...) Bahut nikle mere armaan, lekin phir bhi kam nikle (I have fulfilled some of them, but yet have more..or you could say feels very few have been fulfilled..) Daray kyon mera qaatil? kya rahega us ki gardan par? (Why should my killer (but here it means lover) fear/be afraid, Who is going to hold her responsible/ who is going to place the blame on her neck/head) Voh khoon, jo chashm-e-tar se umr bhar yoon dam-ba-dam nikle For the blood that will trickle through my eyes life long.... Nikalna khuld se aadam ka soonte aaye hain lekin (I have heard of adam being thrown out of paradise) Bahot be-aabru hokar tere kooche se hum nikle (I have come out of your street with more disgrace/humiliation..) Bharam khul jaaye zaalim! teri qaamat ki daraazi ka The illusion of your beauty, character would be disclosed,O, traitor Agar is tarahe par pech-o-kham ka pech-o-kham nikle If I let down my hair from my turban(it just means that if he opens his mouth as he would remove his turban to loosen his hair..) Magar likhvaaye koi usko khat, to hum se likhvaaye (If anybody wants to write her a letter, do so through me) Hui subaha, aur ghar se kaan par rakh kar qalam nikle (Come morning, and I go out of the house with a pen in my ear) Hui is daur mein mansoob mujh se baada aashaami (It was then I turned to the the intoxication of drinking) Phir aaya voh zamaana, jo jahaan mein jaam-e-jaam nikle (Then came the age, where my world was only alcohol and more alcohol) Hui jin se tavaqqa khastagi ki daad paane ki (Expected to hear praise/justice (here he could mean reprimand) for my weakness (drinking) ) Voh ham se bhi zyaada khasta e tegh e sitam nikle (looks like they too are more hurt by the same sword, the same ailment..could be referring to her/friends) Mohabbat mein nahin hai farq jeenay aur marnay ka (there is no difference in the living and dying when in love Usi ko dekh kar jeetay hain, jis kaafir pe dam nikle (I live seeing her, the one who is not a muslim (though some say infidel), but who I die for..) Zara kar jor seene par ki teer-e-pursitam niklejo (please put some pressure on your heart to remove that cruel arrow,) Wo nikle to dil nikle, jo dil nikle to dam nikle (When the arrow comes out, so will the heart and so will life...or he could mean his lover too.) Khuda ke waaste parda na kaabe se uthaa zaalim (For the love of god (or for gods sake or fear of god), don’t lift the veil of your secrets you tryant, (actually the kaabe means the sacred stone in mecca which is the direction the muslims pray..so he could be meaning something else too..) Kaheen aisa na ho yaan bhi wahi kaafir sanam nikle (who can guess, it could be her my non-muslim lover) Kahaan maikhane ka darwaaza Ghalib aur kahaan vaaiz (There is quite a distance between the entrance to the bar (maikhane) and to preachers home) Par itna jaantay hain kal voh jaata tha ke ham nikle (Yet I saw him also entering the same bar,as I was leaving it ..)
Couldnt stop posting this one from the movie "Daddy" sung by TalatAziz.... Aaina mujse meri paheli si surat mange Mere apne meri hone ki nishani maange Aaina mujse mari paheli si surat mange Mein bhatakata hi raha dard ke viraane mein Waqt likhta raha chere pe har pal ka hishab Meri shorat meri diwangi ki nazar hui Pi gayi may ki bolte meri geeto ki kitab Aaj lauta hoon tu hasne ki ada bhool gaya Yeh sahar bhoola muje mein bhi ishe bhool gaya Mere apne meri hone ki nishani mange Aaina mujse meri paheli surat mange Mera fan phir muje bazaar mein le aaya hai Yeh vo jagah ke jahan mero vafa bikate hain Baap bikate hain aur lakhte jigar bikate hain Kookh bikati hain dil bikate hain sar bikate hain Is badalti hui duniya ka khuda koi nahin Saste daamo pe yahan roz khuda bikate hain Har kharidaar ko bazaar mein bikataa paya Hum kya paayenge kisi ne yahaan kya paayaa Mere aheshas mere phool kahin aur chale Bol pujaa meri bachi kahin aur chale aur chale Aur chalen ...... Aur chalen .....

Main ek sadi se baithi hoon...iss raah se koi guzraa nahi kuchh chaand ke rath to guzre the..par chaand se koi Guzraa nahi yeh din aur raat ke pahiye bhi kuchh dhool udaa kar beet gaye main mann aangan main baithi rahi chaukhat se koi guzraa nahi
Oh Shanvy! Where were you hiding this gem of a thread. Please expect me here all the time. : ) Here is one close to my heart. Kal shab mujhe be-shakl ki awaaz ne chaunka diya, Maine kaha tu kaun hai, usne kaha awaargi! (Last night a faceless voice startled me, Who are you? I asked; She answered, profligacy) Ek ajnabi jhonke ne jab, poochha mere ghum ka sabab, Sehra ki bheegi ret par, maine likha awaargi! (An errant gust of wind, asked me the reason for my melancholy, On the west sands of the desert, I wrote, profligacy) Profligacy doesn't have the pathos of 'awaargi' but I couldn't think of a better word.
