    Hello Sharonkavi !

    Welcome to this forum.

Vattalappam is made with eggs, as far as I know. Since I do not use eggs in my cooking, I have never tried it. Sorry, I am not able to help you.
    Love & regards,
    Chithra.

    lapsi idli - doubt

    Dear Chithra,

Should I increase/double the quantity of urad if I'm using the grinder - i.e. 2 1/2 cups of lapsi. Please advise.

    Thanks

    Dear vls !

    For mixi
    3 parts lapsi & 1 part urad
    For grinder
    4 parts lapsi + 1 part urad.
    I hope it is clear.
    Love & regards,
    Chithra.

Choice of Side-dish for Chappathi ?

    Dear Chitra and Other Members,

I have a problem. Everytime I make chappathi, I have to break my head over the sidedish. After much thought, I always land up either making channa masala, rajma masala, dhal, veg. kurma, paneer dishes etc. (mostly the one's that we get in hotels - that's time consuming and eloberate procedure).

I want some suggestions about some other types of side-dish for chappathi (apart from these kinds of subji's) and which can be made as quickly as possible. Any ideas ???

My hubby don't like taking cooked veggies as side-dish for chapathi. Pls rule out vegetables as side-dish.

Can you all tell me what kind of chutneys and thogayal goes well with chappathi (any thing other than that too ok for me !).

    Pls give me ur suggestions.

    Love,
    Preethi

Here are a few suggestions from me:

    1. Have you tried chapati with poricha kootu? It goes well and Ms C has given a number of PK recipes.
    2. In the regional recipes forum under Maharashtrian recipes, you will find the recipe for Pithale ( or kadalamavu chutney as we call it). This is a great side for both puri and chapati.
    3. Are dry subjis with dal a no no? Chapati with a dry subji and dal is a standard fare. you can have n number of combinations here.
    4. Try chapati with Kadhi ( given with MS C as a side for kichadi). This combination tastes good too . you can make a dry subji with this or make a sundal .
    5. Try the jain tomato chutney with chapatis , that is a good side too.
    6. Thogayals like thenga, kothamalli , etc... are also good with chapati.

Thats all that comes to mind now.

    Red rice

    Dear Chitvish:

I would like to know if I can substitute red rice (kerala rice) in place of idli rice or boiled rice while making tiffins? will it be too starchy?

    Thanks

    Seetha
